Cancer: Should We Change Its Name?

Honestly, the main reason I want the name change is for the new helmet. If there was no new helmet guaranteed in Cancer's place, I wouldn't care at all

All for it for changing Cancer, but leave Cardiac Arrest and Asphyxia alone if you have any thoughts on changing them, too. They have brilliant names and design that shouldn’t be ruined by a bunch of oversensitive people.

 

Cancer is much touchier a topic than Cardiac Arrest or Asphyxia, all things considered and considering how the item was handled, though we intend to avoid using medical terminology for item names in the future most likely.

 

so the problem is that Cancer has a ton of poison?

 

Personally, I dislike the current cancer not because of its name, but because of its ID's, it has a very high stat requirement for poison being the only good stat, given the attack speed tier is useless in a normal build. however builds do exist that utilize this item but alas they are very gimmicky and aren't practical (example: https://wynndata.tk/s/UYoPVD) , the only useful application this item can be used for is poison builds, and then again they aren't very practical. My suggestion for this item is to rework it and not add a replacement, because a replacement would completely overshadow it and with or without the same name it would be a borderline unusable item. Now, lets take a full look at this item. When you first take a glance you notice it has very good stats, looking at the negative stats makes you realize that these stats are useless without damage, this should be changed in a way that when you first see the positive stats you'll think its a good item when you see the negative stats along with it you will realize that it is Balanced and that's what should be aimed for. Before the nerf on cancer it was seen as an ok item until people started adding %dmgs to their builds, alas they got free poison attack speed and lifesteal, but this caused it to be overpowered. cancer is a good item and I believe it should retain its stats in smaller quantities, making it possible to build around this item in a way that makes you strong, yet slightly hindered. my suggestion is this: keep the items stats, reduce them. don't replace the item, it just needs a rework. This is how I would rework it https://wynndata.tk/ci/Custom-807255298 in this example the dmgs are reduced, so are the buffs, in fact I entirely removed the attack tier to prevent it from entering the melee meta. here it is possible to make a build and entirely remove the debuffs. In that case you get full dmg with some extra poison and lifesteal and a bit of mana steal. I think this would make the item usable again and sought after.

if i, in some miraculous way happen to not be mentally disabled, this build should get about 9.5k poison dps when using curse.
combining that with the relatively high survivability, it is actually quite a solid build which theoretically could be able to solo LI with enough skill.
all things considered, poison builds are practical, just perhaps not in the way most people see them

Having had some close relatives die from cancer, I'm absolutely not offended at its use. There's a large margin between intentional and unintentional offence, and being on the internet, players should have some thicker skin about this kind of thing. The name fits incredibly well with its effects, being a disease (or poison) that completely debilitates someone. Jormungandr doesn't fit the role as well, as no one would recognize the name for what it is without a couple seconds of Google search. The name shouldn't be changed as a result of supposed "community outrage" and because its current name is much more recognizable than what it would become.

 

What about the item not really fitting with the zodiac it's based off of?

Holy shit people are way too sensitive about this stuff nowdays, Toughen up.
It's just an item in a god damn Minecraft server, If someone genuinely is offended by it being called "Cancer" I'd strongly advise to that very someone to simply quit the internet completely.
Anyone who actually is bothered by an item being called "Cancer" existing is most likely just seeking for attention or drama, This entire situation is absolutely ridiculous.

Do we really need to censor out these items for their god damn names? I'm always up for a new item but please don't just remove cancer. Change the lore and the effect can stay. I don't think the item team is extremely strict on keeping the lore similar to the stats. And really you'll just cause more confusion when returning players join.

 

I don't think many people are actually voting because they think the name is inappropriate, so I don't see how telling everyone to grow a thick skin will do anything.

 

Change the name because the current Cancer is not inspired by the zodiac sign.
To re-complete the zodiac set of armor, add a new Cancer that is inspired by the zodiac sign.

 

Did you guys not read the part about the zodiac issue, rather than the issue of the name "offending people"...?

EDIT: DID YOU EVEN read the part where it says that if they change the name, that we'll get a NEW Cancer that's more accurate to the zodiac...?

 

Think they are just bashing that particular reason. I think they either don’t care or would go for it for those other reasons you mentioned.
