Drew's a Wynn veteran who's been here for 5 years now! You're still active in-game, what game feature or features make you keep playing?

The friends I've made in the community are a large part of why I've stayed, but guilds are definitely the main reason. Ever since Gavel I haven't really been too interested in the main game, but I still thoroughly enjoy helping to run a guild and talking with others in the guild community. There's just something so fascinating to me about the different ways guilds can interact with each other, and if guilds weren't a feature of Wynn, I'd likely have left a long time ago.

We'll talk more about guilds later then! Before, do you remember after so many years how you joined Wynncraft?

It's a pretty odd story, but keep in mind that I was 13 at the time. I used to play on this creative server with a few people I'd met from there, and we'd hang out a lot. Then one day they randomly griefed my plot and I wanted to know why, but they'd disappeared. I googled one of their usernames to see if I could find another server they played on, and I found out that they had a youtube channel and had recorded a video about Wynn. So, yeah. I lowkey found out about this server by trying to stalk someone who griefed me. Y'know, the usual.

Alrighty, now that we know a bit about your story in Wynn let's talk about guilds, shall we? Why do you like guilds so much?

I’ve always had an interest in history and politics, and I believe that’s transferred over to guilds. Everything that happens in guilds (alliances, enemies, friendship, betrayals, common enemies, shared goals, etc) is, at its core, a simplified version of real life politics. If you know where you’re looking, you can find historical or modern day similarities and comparisons to everything that happens with guilds. And to me that’s utterly fascinating and fun to take part in. There’s also just so many roads you can take.
Want to unite a bunch of guilds and take over the map?
You can do that.
Want to befriend other guilds and make lasting peaceful relationships?
You can do that.
Want to turn on your allies and attack them?
You can also do that if you want.
There’s just so many things you can do with guilds and that’s why I love it. You’re not limited to things like quests, you can make your own content and shape the game how you want.

So you are a war driven guild member. One day guilds were broken and suddenly that they got fixed. Were you expecting that fix and the wars remake? Also, are you happy with the current state of those?

I’m currently war driven, but before I started warring again I was community driven.
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting the fixes. Guilds had been broken for over two years, and the team had been telling us they were being worked on that entire time. After a certain point I think most of us veterans stopped thinking the fixes were ever coming, you know? After the first fixes came and name changes no longer made you a prisoner, I talked to jp a bit, and that mindset changed and I started expecting more updates.
I’m certainly very happy with the current remakes and changes, especially since a lot of guild leaders have been allowed to give their opinions and suggestions about what new changes should happen. It makes us all feel a lot more involved and gives us a chance to give our own input, which is why there have been very few changes so far that have been met with anything other than praise, and also why I’m definitely excited at the prospect of more updates.
I’d say that my personal favorite change so far is the custom war timers. The days of waiting 5 minutes just to solo a territory are over!

Oh, that's nice. So what feature would you like to see in the future that could make guilds better?

I’d like to see in game support for alliances. They’ve always been an integral part of guilds yet since there’s no way to make them official in game, all alliances have to be limited to the forums and/or discord. I think it’d also encourage a lot more interaction between small/casual guilds, perhaps leading to a lot more of them becoming involved in alliances, whether community or war.
It’s not anything that’s absolutely crucial of necessary, it’d just be a nice touch and add some more depth to what can be done in the game itself.
Although if we’re talking changes that would be such an improvement that it’s almost necessary, guild defense presets come to mind. Nobody likes having to click on the same mobs over and over. But I’m fairly certain that’s something that’s being planned, so hopefully it won’t be too long of a wait.

Alliances are a nice idea and you have a lot of experience related to them as you have been part of multiple huge alliances. You're also basically Fox's Co-Owner. It's been a long guild journey for you, what advice would you give to people who'd like to create a guild or start an alliance?

One of the most common mistakes I see with people starting new guilds is that they start with member expectations that are just way too high. If you're trying to make a new guild, you can't afford to turn away people who want to join. So if you're just getting started, don't be afraid to let in that low level player or that guy who doesn't know anything about how guilds work. What's important is that you get the guild active. Once it's active and getting full, that's when you can afford to start being picky with your members.

The best advice to anyone wanting to get involved with alliances is to make friends. Actively trying to befriend other guilds can really pay off in the long run. You never know when you might need the help of a few allies down the road, and it's much more difficult to form alliances with random players than it is with friends. Even if you don't currently want to make or join an alliance, being prepared for the future is never a bad thing. This might seem like common sense to some, but you'd be surprised at how many guilds neglect to befriend other guilds and end up without any reliable allies when they need them.

How do you manage your time in real life? You are an alliance and guild leader, it must take a lot of time.

I just graduated high school so I've got a couple months before I go to college where I'm relatively free. But even with no school, I reckon I've got a lot less free time than most dedicated Wynn players. Fortunately most of the things I do for our guild and alliance can be easily managed through our discords. Even when I'm busy and can't hop on Wynn, I can run things from my phone. But it's not a one man job. It'd be absurd for me to do it all myself, so luckily there's a lot of great people in both Fox and the alliance who are just as capable and do a lot of hard work to make sure it runs smoothly.
