Reddit Advice Needed

For a long time I have been thinking about joining Reddit. However, due to the sheer amount of content on the website, I'm kinda overwhelmed. If anyone has any experience or is a Redditor, what are the best places to start with? I'm interested into history, science, jokes, movies, TV, and politics. Anything else is fine except for Anime or weird fandom shit like FNAF or My Little Pony.

If you're into millennial humor, /r/okbuddyretard /r/terriblefacebookmemes and /r/smoobypost are amazing places. A personal favorite of mine is /r/nottheonion
If you're into Steam, /r/freegamesonsteam is a good place. /r/freegamefindings is also cool for finding free games on more platforms than just steam.

Most of the default subreddits you get auto subbed to when you create an account is pretty much everything you are looking for. You can unsubscribe from them too, to get more content that you are actually interested in.
