I just realized the birds' flying height is just out of normal range... Noted.

I'll aim (using my bonus action for Kensei's Shot), shoot Bird 2 twice, then move to where I will be placing my token.

Attack 1: 12 8+8=16
Damage: 5+2+4=11

Attack 2: 15 7+8=15
Damage: 3+4+5+4=16 (Another ki point spent)

Total Damage: 27 piercing

 

That's fine. The bird finally has visible damage: a hole on its wing that seems to be oozing a crimson/violet gas.

I use a bonus action to cause Heal Metal damage, which is 9 fire damage.

I fly up a few feet and fire force blasts at bird 2.

Attack 1: 13 + 9 = 22
Attack 2: 15 + 9 = 24

Damage 1: 5 + 5 = 10
Damage 2: 6 + 5 = 11

Total: 21 force damage plus 9 fire damage.

 

Just check in whenever you have the chance.

The creature, seemingly falling apart at its seams(?) spirals down to the ground beak first before crashing and breaking apart. It emits both smoke from its burns and an odd fog-like crimson gas.

Tic Tac 2: 5 + 10 = 15

Damage 1 (do I double damage die for spell attacks?): 10 + 5 (+ 5?) = 15 (20?)
Damage 2: 2 + 5 = 7

Total damage: 22 (27?) Force Damage.

 

Spells with attack rolls can crit in the same way that melee attacks can.

Toki casts Heat Metal on Bird 1.
8 fire damage. (Do I add my 9 spell attack modifier?)
Make a CON save if it can take off the metal suit (or whatever).

 

You don't add you spell attack mod unless it specifies.

 

14+3=17 for the CON save.

 

They can keep the armor on, but they have disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks. Unless it takes the metal off.
