With the end of school year coming up for many of us, some of us will be graduating from high school. This means that a lot of us are going to be applying for colleges. College is a big deal for many of us, so this might be a lot of stress for some people. Of course you won't be able to get into some of the colleges you applied for, but usually you'll get into at least one that you want to get into.

But what do you do when you don't get into any of the colleges you apply for? Some of us might know some poor souls who have had this happen to them. This might be heart wrenching for those who go through it, and this is something we want to avoid, so I thought we could have a discussion on what to do in a situation like this, and also how to maximize your chances of getting accepted.

Some things you can do when you get rejected from all your choices:
Go to a community college. These are usually non-competitive and will just accept you if you have the money. You can use CC as a stepping stone to transfer into the college you wanted to get to.
You can also go to a trade school or learn a trade at your local CC. They usually pay decent money and you should have no problem learning one.
As a last resort you can always join the military, if you're in the US, i'd say join the airforce to avoid being put near combat.
Feel free to expand on this.

And now some things to maximize your chances of getting accepted:
First would be to know what your strengths are. Don't apply for computer science if you haven't taken any computer classes or haven't taken any good math classes, chances are you won't get accepted.
Do extracurriculars, bonus points if they relate to the subject you're applying for. Colleges like to see that you are willing to dedicate yourself to things.
Have good grades and good test scores. These wont carry you by themselves but they will make you look better on your application.

This is all I could think of at the moment, but feel free to expand on what I said, or correct me. I made this thread because I have a very "special" friend who was feeling down since he got rejected from college, and has gone on a bit of a special rampage recently, so I'm trying to get some advice to calm him down. Thanks for reading!

That’s pretty much about it besides not doing stupid shit like drinking. Apprenticeships like BMW’s in South Carolina are also pretty good too.

I only applied to two colleges because I wanted to only go to one, and I got into both so I’m not one to ask about getting rejected. Sorry about your friend and I hope it works out.

Community college is usually the best route if you want a secure life. I’ve gotten into about 7 colleges myself but I won’t be going to any until I get out of a community college. They’re far cheaper to the point where you can rack up funds for the years that you’re there so you can not risk going into debt when the real thing comes around. And, it’s a great time to turn your life around if he’s in a bad position. Another option is as many have said, apprenticeships. They pay well and give plenty of experience, especially if you’re looking to go into field engineering. And, as you also said, getting into the military is also an option. The navy is something I’ve always wanted to join, I just don’t have the guts to go through boot camp and 8 years of service.
