That's 2013, but the statistics are still pretty similar to the recent years. More guns; less homicides.

I’m guessing because the homicides turn into justified self-defences. (Fear)
Also, another factor is that if everyone has a gun, you’re less likely to shoot people because they will probably shoot you too. (M.A.D, mutually assured destruction)

That's actually really interesting. My guess is that a lot of the increase in privately owned guns goes to people who already own a gun and don't commit crimes, and that, combined with the overall trend of a decreasing crime rate, as well as a possible increase in popularity of other forms of mass murder (like the bombings in Texas), is probably the most likely reason for this.

All the same, it's worth noting that compared to places like the UK and Japan, the gun death rate per 100,000 people is much lower than it is in the US. For example, in 2013, the number of gun deaths per 100,000 people was 10.63, while in the UK, it was .22 per 100,000 people, and in Japan for 2014 (as my source doesn't list 2013), there were six people killed total. Both the UK and Japan have much more restrictive gun laws, including a complete prohibition of automatic and semi-automatic weapons and a ban on handguns, except in certain cases.
Of course, a lot of this could be other factors (Culture, Terrorism methods, etc.) so overall I'd argue that more research is needed to reach a conclusion. And to be fair here, DC has made it possible for the CDC to conduct research on this subject, which means we may be getting a clearer answer soon.
My source (probably at least slightly biased, and possibly more so):

A couple of things. First, why would you need a gun to protect yourself from the government? That just seems unnecessary, and seems more like a justification to shoot a government figure than an actual legitimate reason.

Second, and on a largely unrelated note, GODDAMN does the bill of rights have bad grammer. The fifth amendment is ONE SENTENCE, and looks like an entire paragraph.

In any case, yeah, this is largely accurate. Current civilian-owned gun numbers are about 300 million, and the vast majority of them aren't used to commit mass shootings, so yes, mass shooters would definitely be outnumbered (although it's worth noting that most of those guns will probably be clustered in certain areas, such as rural towns, and not where the vast majority of mass shootings take place, whether that's a cause of the mass shooting locations, or an effect of it, remains to be seen). And the second amendment is designed for the formation of a militia, which is probably for the purpose of defending oneself.

Well I'd want a gun as a counter measure just in case if Trump or any government becomes tyrannical and diplomatic negotiations don't work besides protection from the government it also offers protection against others. Yeah one may argue that the police is for that but they aren't always there when they need you because they can't instantly teleport to you when someone is mugging you. However I don't think that more guns equals less crime because crime was already on a trend where crime was decreasing while by coincidence gun ownership is increasing. Also I think it is better to compare to compare overall homicide rates rather than gun deaths obviously a place with less guns or pretty much no guns will have less deaths by guns but it doesn't matter whether a person is killed by gun, fist, knife, or etc. I'd personally would want to live in a place with 100 gun deaths per 100,000 than a place with zero gun deaths but a higher homicide rate. In the end though how much should we restrict guns and how effective would those restrictions be. The problem I mainly see in the US is decent gun laws but really bad gun enforcement.

Fair enough, but to be honest, in this day and age, if they wanted to take your guns and you resisted, they'd probably just send a drone after you.

I don’t think a one-size-fits-all approach would be that effective. Especially since how different each state is in terms of geography, demographics, etc.
