    I've tried 1.8.9. I've tried jumping while pushing. I've always gotten a new sickle on a different server. Is it like the computer in the yellow meteor or not?

    It's possible, you just have the worst possible luck when it comes to the puzzle breaking.

    You dont need to do the hay bale puzzle, at the right side of the tree you should see red particles, thats's an invisible parcour
