The reason you fight them: 1. for xp, 2. They steal ragni's property

The reason they fight: They need someone to test Garoth's defenses
The reason you fight them: To protect yourself

Name: Underworld Crypt
The reason they fight: They are corrupted
The reason you fight them: For the legendaries (or rares)

Name: Sand-Swept tomb
The reason they fight: You stepped to Hashr's resting place
The reason you fight them: We hate people resting, go to the nether or somewhere to rest

Name: Ice Barrows
The reason they fight: They are corrupted
The reason you fight them: To free Theorick

Name: Undergrowth ruins
The reason they fight: They want your life energy to get Troms
The reason you fight them: for powders

The reason they fight: To destroy landlubbers like you
The reason you fight them: To steal his booty but you can't

The reason they fight: You trespassed to their factory
The reason you fight them: 1. for gigabyte, 2. We hate robots

Lots of these have been changed with the 1.17 update and many of them are wrong. Like for example, the reason you fight the infested pit is to lower and control the spider population by taking out the queen. Can't argue with the undergrowth ruins tho, powders all the way.

Why?

 

Not necessarily. They are under the control of Charon, an actual Greek mythological figure who guards the passage to the underworld across two rivers. We know that the dungeon contains a gate to the Underworld. Charon, in my opinion, is trying to keep mortals out of the Underworld, which is supposed to be for dead people. However, he's inadvertently been a massive nuisance to Nemract, who are trying to stop his undead from attacking them.
