No, Qira could not cure the Decay, the Decay is no "force" created by Darkness or anything like that, 1k years ago the greed of the villagers was so great in Gavel it began to creep into the Realm of Light and affect it entirely, as such in consequence, the Decay was created by the greed. It made the greedy and rich poor and feeble as seen by Olux, and it made everything that was around it die and rot. It wasn't something that you could just "cure", because as long as the greed exists. The Decay would be eternal. The only thing she could do is enslave and murder every single greedy villager and just leave the elves and the other non-greedy races alive, which would probably reverse the Decay in Gavel because there's no more greed. however she isn't about that.

As for the corruption... she could probably do something about the mobs and the CoW, such as, begin a murderous rampage across the entire province killing anything and everything that was corrupted, maybe doing what Theo did and freezing the Roots (doubt it would work), or just sealing up the portal entirely. But the force itself? No.

But when she learned about Dern and The Eye she just wend mad and terrified. So she locked herself in the Hive and began creating an army. She knew that there would be a total war, greater than the war against the Corruption, and the current battles with Dark & Light. She wanted to be ready to face it with her own army.

just... how I look at it.

It's clearly stated that it's within her power to cure it, but she CHOSE not to. She instead put her energy into making her army

A few other threads went this way too. I havn't made an actual theory in a while, but these new changes make so much stuff change that it's basically nothing but theory-making-material.

    Awe, thanks

okay... but the thing is everyone in Gavel is taking the Decay in a way that it is a sickness or force that can be cured or stopped. No, the reason it exists is because of the villagers itself, their greed, which affected the Realm of Light and caused the realm to be flooded with Succoru Parasites which were created by the villager's greed itself, and there are more being created because of the villager's greed itself. First she would need to either force everybody to be not greedy, be like the Queen of Fruma and just be a tyrant, then get into the Realm of Light and destroy all the Succoru Parasites herself which would prove to be incredibly difficult.

The second thing would be to travel across the world and eradicate every single greedy villager in existence and then destroy the succoru parasites.

The first option would result in rebellion and would not be good for Gavel or any other province as even without greed existing, Qira pulling off tyrannical rule would not be good for the Realm of the Light's influence on Gavel, and as far as we know, she supports the ROL, so she would not do that.

The second option would eradicate the infrastructure of Gavel itself and probably run the rest of the province's races and life to extinction without the Gavel governments run by testificates doing anything, and I doubt Aldorei and any other non-greedy race can just sustain themselves like that (they surely would not support Qira eradicating an entire species), which in turn would affect the other provinces because no more gavel = plenty of bad things happening. Then with Light being linked to an empty province, Darkness and Corruption would soon overrun Dern and Wynn without any Gavel people.

And whats more, the second option would destroy Wynn itself, it's very obvious that she was asked before Villagers started teaching Humans magic, so without that Wynn would've lost the corruption war.

tl;dr she would've destroyed Gavel had she attempted to cure it, thus destroying half the world in the process.

    Light, definitely.
She explicitly says, "The darkness is coming...strong enough to beat it back".
Oppress the oppressors! Give to those in need!
    BRING ON COMMUNISM!
Perhaps by cure, "indefinitely suppress" was meant. Not the force itself, mind you, but just its negative effects.

This has gone from a theory sharing post to "Spyrohawk's Lore Lessons 101" to an argument about the nature of the decay and the generic Dernic war

No, they wanted her to eradicate it fully, make sure nothing was left of it.

"Cure" is the key word, when a cure for a disease is found, the disease becomes eradicated and almost nothing (until the evolution process)

But indefinitely suppressing it does not seem like it could happen tbh.

But can greed really cause the decay itself? There seemed to be evidence of corrupt and dark influences in the RoL

You make good points, but a few counters

    1) You basically argue that the Decay comes from the very nature of the villagers. That they are inherently greedy, and so the only way to stop the Decay is killing all the villagers. But, there MUST be some otherworldly influence, otherwise why did the Decay not start until the War of the Realms started?

    2) It mentions IN GAME that Qira is strong enough to stop it

The Taproot implies that the catalyst for the Decay was certain people worshipping darkness. I don't think villagers practice satabovemism in their free time (besides Mr. Caritat, but that was after the Decay Beast was released), so there must be some other reason than the embodiment of the greed of villagers. Besides that, the Taproot mentions that the people in Gavel "succumbed to sin", not "succumbed to greed" specifically.

The Wiki mentions that the greed of villagers caused the Succoru parasites, but there is no mention of greed in any of the RoL storyline quests. That particular passage is caused by another passage in "Aldorei's Secret Part II". However, the writer of the page about the Decay probably misconstrued it, as it is specifically stated the Villager's greed "was not the end of the world". If you think that is a fluke, the quest also says, "and to this day we are unsure exactly what caused it [the decay]".

In other words, even the elves, the final say on who is greedy and who is not, does not fully believe the Decay is caused by the Villager's greed.
