I've just visited Lusuco's Library for the discovery and upon comparison with the text found in the wiki, I think the text in the library has changed rather substantially with regards to the lore of the Twains.

Perhaps the changes were only made in this new update? (Comparison between the old and new text can be found here, spoiler alert!)

    • The old text mentioned that before the opening of the portal, magic was used in Wynn. The new text stated instead that "magic was not wielded by the hands of man".
    • The bit about the Twain family being one with immense spiritual and magical heritage is completely removed in the new text (possibly in keeping with the point above - magic wasn't wielded by man).
    • The new text implies that Marius Twain took in more than the four spirit seekers: Rickeo, Theorick, Dwendle and Mael; however these four were his proteges. In the old text, it seemed that he'd only adopted the four.
    • Speaking of "spirit seekers", this phrase was used multiple times in the old text to refer to the four but was never used in the new text.
    • Old text: "Theorick [....] left to live in the nearest village, and formed it in his own image, frozen." New text: "Theorick [...] left to live in the nearest village, Nesaak. He protected it with his life."
    • The old text mentioned that when the portal was opened, the four Twains regrouped to fight the onslaught of monsters. The Twains remained separate in the new text.
    • It is mentioned that Bob was the one Mael passed his skills and knowledge on to in the new text. This was left ambiguous in the old text.
    • Mael's death is mentioned in the new text. In the old text, he is simply "nowhere to be found."
    • The old text stated that the House of Twain stood for "over a thousand years". In the new text, it is only "several".

welp, I am not quite sure how this might affect anything, but I'm just putting it out there :p

Couldn't, before the portal, as I've interpreted from the text. No clue as to why things turned out this way though

I'm pretty sure the villagers thought humans how to use magic. That still leaves a lore gap though since Meal knew magic and I'm pretty sure he was around before the villagers.

    f*** this ruins everything.

    Like legit, everything.

Wait, but timeline problem. Magic was not used by the hands of man. In the old text, dark magic users existed, which the Spirit Seekers fought. In the new text, you say magic didn't exist until the opening of the portal.

Now, it's also mentioned that the 4 of them, although remaining separate, were fighting the corruption when the portal opened. If at the very least, they were adults. But... that's like missing like 20 years worth of time, right?

    Or am I missing something.
    Basically

f*** literally every single theory, every single dern theory, every single dern twain connection, and literally eveything else

Then how do we use magic. And bob? And the corkians? And the mages of mage island? And every single mob that has "mage" in it?

IIRC the villagers taught it to us, as per the skien's lore he associated all magic with villagers

Corkians are weird and just happened to be able to make tech

Bob is Dernic, don't question it

Anyway, I can't be sure of the exact wording, only what's presented in the thread

I've read through the new text again, and realised that according to Chapter 2 of the new lore:

During the early years of the war of corruption, there was only localised defense from these people.

It wasn't until Marius Twain, a particularly gifted man, decided to organise a team.

This basically tells us that the Twains only existed after the portal was opened and the war on corruption began, instead of before...

    damn timeline shift

It says that magic was undiscovered, but only up to the point where the portal opened. Did humanity get so desperate that it (after a century or two to fit this twain story) figure out how to use magic? Because if humans have had magic for the past 500-600 years that makes things so much less broken. If the villagers arrived with their brand of magic, I assume skien would associate all magic with them anyway due to him being skien.

Because most of the wynnic people are descended from 1000 year old fruman immigration waves, it is likely that fruma was withholding magic information from everyone even back then. However, the shamans of the native wynnic, like slyakaar, were able to explore magic without a totalitarian oppression

Good question. Did the opening of the portal randomly bring magic? Or was it nonexistant until the villagers came? And if we come from Fruma already having magic (spells, mage class, etc), before any contact with villagers, how does that work? (not to mention Magic not supposed to be publically available in Fruma)

    Aye, not bad.

And when they tried to discover magic, the first thing they found was the dark magic from Dern, as it is stated that the shamans use sacrifices and "dark magic" and literally every other 1000+ year old source of magic in Wynn has some Dernic connection

I think how it works is that humans have always lived in Wynn without magic and the most recent humans came from Fruma. Because they were from Fruma, they didn’t have any magic bc the monarchy withheld it from the population. So after the portal appeared, they closed the Fruma gates, and basically everyone was left to fend for themselves. Though like in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children or Harry Potter or X-men, some children by chance were born with magical gifts, even if their ancestors lacked magic. Think about it like a recessive gene or a mutation.
