Whomst'd've Is Bakal?

I've seen this name before, and it's mentioned in the Hero Beta Discoveries Megathread, but I don't know who it is. Going to tag you, @SPYROHAWK in case you know (probably)

 

There are tons of lore characters:
Mael, Bob/Robert, Siegfrieg, Tisuan, Ragnar, Gale, Ohm, and maybe a few more that I forget.
He is one of them, and he made his first appearance in the gavel Trailer:

- At 0:28 in the trailer he is mentioned.

I don't know anything else because i am not in the hero beta, since I am a lowly VIP, but maybe this shouldn't be answered any further to avoid spoiling a large quest for you, as I am sure he will be talked about in the quest.

 

I'm behind on the discoveries, but here's the general gist of things

Ba'kal (Bak'al?) was one of the leaders in the army when they initially fought the corrupted. Unlike CoW, he was not a leader of the miners, but like CoW, he journeyed into the portal. He became corrupted (if you see his skin in the cutscenes, he's like half deformed). He came back out, not as an undead, but as a powerful combination of corrupted and living. He became a leader of the corrupted

He then lead the undead on a full-scale assault, the likes of which were never seen before. They made it all the way through Nivla, which up to that point remained firmly in the hands of the living, until finally on the Emerald Trail he was confronted by Bob. Bob was not able to kill Bak'al/Ba'kal but was able to drive him away. His current state is unknown (but I do belive he's mentioned in one of the dungeon quests).

 

Oh right. I had a feeling it was something to do with the corruption, but I wasn't sure.

 

A slight addition to this.
Bak’al is mentioned in one of the discoveries as having appeared multiple times in history. This suggest he, much like CoW, has been given some sort of long/infinite life despite not being entirely undead. He also appears to have some sort of massive strength, given through the ”Bak’al’s Destruction” discovery line where he appears to easily destroy villages with just a few undead, altough in the master discovery he is certainly weaker then CoW as Bob easily defeats him. Bak’al could possibly also ”power up” his minions as in the master discovery three zombies( skeletons? )are seen killing three guards with ease, although they could just be some kind of ”superzombies”.

 

when exactly does the cutscene at 0:28 in the game? I'm level 97 and don't remember this at all.

 

It's currently not in the game. It was postponed until most likely MSL, yet things might end up a lot different than from what's seen in the trailer.
