I wonder how much memory the entire playable map of Wynncraft (including all quest instance areas and other off-map locations) would take up in a hard drive. Anyone know of a way to potentially calculate it?

Last time I heard, the map size was around 20 gigabytes iirc. As for the code, quests and scripts, I have no idea.

So with all of that stuff, probably less than 100GB???

There is no way they have that much code. No way at all.

The code is probably 5-7 gb (10 gb at most), no way it will ever go higher than that

And that is assuming I downloaded League of Legends with 8 gb

This is an entirely unreasonable comparison, but you should be right. (Most games have textures, which are big files.)
Code is small, as it is just text files, but with the volume that wynn has, it is possible that a few GB are taken up by them.

I wouldn't say 100gb but I would say around 50gb. I don't imagine Wynn's code being all that efficient, seeing that its all done with Minecraft plugins, creating a lot of bloat. And Minecraft isn't that well coded to begin with. I could be completely wrong though.

The Code itself is not much, the world is a bit, however the platform Wynn is using (MC) is a terrible platform. You still have to follow the limits of MC and the Plugins as they limit what Wynn could be... in general... MC sucks to code on.

Still don't get why wynb doesn't change the world generation settings to void and remove the flatmap, it wouldn't help much for lag tho empty chunks aren't processed by the server, but at least worlds load quicker

I recommend against trying to e-mail it. The would take forever. Like it would be faster to print all the code.

The total source code of the Linux kernel, is 70mb.

There is no way that there is more than 50mb of code running Wynncraft. It is feasible that quests take up more space, with all of the lines. Quests could be compressed as well. My guess would be somewhere around 70mb - 100mb for the entire thing, including code and quests.

The Linux kernel is written in assembly by professionals. It is literally the best code can get. Wynn on the other hand has a custom script and not the best programmers in the world.

1 - Wynncraft devs ARE professionals.
2 - you aint bouta tell me you believe a minecraft server's code base is larger than that of a fucking operating system.

Yeah, the devs might be professional, or at least they have significant coding knowledge, but remeber, they're not paid to do what they do (afaik), and they have other jobs/lives in general. They can't spend ages doing the code. Also, remeber that the code is/was messy. Very messy. That's why the refactor took so long, but took top priority, because without it, the code was difficult to add to. So really, the code probably was pretty big.

1 - Technically they are, but they aren't the best in the game. There are programmers who make up to 140k a year, no way Jumla makes nearly that much off of Wynncraft.
2 - You forgot that Windows is like 20 gb, which is 20000 mb

And the devs are well beyond professional, there is no way any of wynncraft's custom code was free

Yea cuz is custom, tho some of wynns code is godlike, like for example ai performance, there are a few bad apples, wynns code is mostly bad not because their coders are bad but because the code is messy, it was made as a 1 person project and the more was added to it the harder it was to organise, and when bugs came along it was hard to find anything cuz spaghetti, enhanced had the same issue we just realised that earlier on

1 - professionality of a programmer is not defined by his salary. The requirement for creating something like wynncraft is actually quite low. It's the stuff way beyond basic coding that separate people who makes 40k and people who makes 200k in the software industry.
2 - 20GB is the storage space required to install windows 10. It is not the size of its code base lol.

Unlike established software organizations with a complete development cycle, wynncraft's server side work is a few-men project. They're actually doing well considering the nature and the lod of work they deal with.
    ________________________________
Code refactor in itself is an extremely draining task. Doing so for a project of 3 thousand lines already takes ages. I'd guess wynncraft's code is in the teens (of thousands).
