We use the relativity theory to explain everything that happens in our universe, but at one thing it fails. The Math of the relativity theory works on every single moment after the big bang. Except the big bang itself; it's a so called "singularity". The relativity theory doesn't give any results for the point of creation of our unverse. And that's the reason, why the big bang itself is such a big mystery. Steven Hawkings life's work was to examine the bigbang, the reason for everything, until he questioned everything with the relativity of imaginary time. In math there is a way to calculate with imaginary numbers. With real numbers you can't calculate the square root of -1. With imaginary numbers, you can solve this problem. If you help yourself on the measurement of time with these numbers, you get the imaginary time. And if you examine the universe regarding this imaginary time-space, it acts fundamentally different. But first a little sidenote: something that is infinite has no boundries. But obvious is, that if the universe into the past finite is, that it has to have a boundry: the big bang. But it is possible that something is finite, but doesn't have boundries. Take for example a ring: if you run around it you'll just end up at the other side of the ring. It's infite, but has no boundries: it's finished in itself. Same thing goes for the surface of a sphere. And just like that you can imagine the imaginary time-space: like how a ring is infinite in it's 1 Dimensional Form, or the Sphere in its 2 Dimensional, is the Imaginary time-space infinite in its 4 Dimensional form. With the imaginary time-space, the universe is expanding until it reached its biggest state, and minimizes again. It's finished. In itself. It's finite, but boundry-less. Looking at the universe, when it has minimized again, then it looks like a singularity, and a big bang, while with the imaginary time there isn't a boundry, and therefore no big bang. Constantly, we search for a finding for the cause of the big bang, cause earlier there wasn't a universe, a space or time. Therefore there must be an external cause for the big bang. But regarding the imaginary time, the universe doesn't need a big bang; no boundries. It never has to be caused by anything because it's finished by itself. It just exists. But why does it have to have a meaning, when we give it a hypothetical imaginary time? Stephen Hawkings doubts that the time that we call the real time, really the real time is. He thinks that the real time is just how our brain sees the real time, so that it understands it, and that the imaginary time-space is in reality the real time-space.

So you are basically saying that the universe never started nor will ever end, but instead will go through an infinite cycle of expansion and decay?
