I decided to take it up :P, thought it would be fun, and a way to improve my inking being as it's so messy atm.
I hate this one D; especially the shadow!
Couldn't do one on Day Two :(
The inking is rlly messy but I kinda like it :3
    [IMG]
Kinda kwl, but I think the cell shading on the figure is a bit scruffy :P
    [IMG]
This is a lino print, which is hard to do ;P
So plz excuse the messiness in some places.
I had to use a reference for this one, it was more me practicing getting neater lines and anatomy in general.
    Day 7 + 8
    I couldn't draw any, too busy :(
Don't really like the face and the anatomy is a bit eh, I can definitely improve this :P
    [IMG]
Srry the photo isn't that good :P
I did this because side profiles was a weak spot for me, and I like the result, but I think the darker shades are too dark and are hard to differentiate from the hair.
This is the same lino cut as that used in day 5, but this time I was experimenting with different colours and gradients when printing.
BTW I have a timelapse of the project , if any of u are interested I could show it :P
    Day 12 - Too busy, couldn't get a drawing done :P
Really working on anatomy here, I messed up the shading in the hair and the rear foot, but overall I think it worked well :P
    [IMG]
Srry the ones from this weekend are late, but I wasn't home so I had to wait till Monday :P
Trying out a new lining style for the next few day also.
Doing some more practice with anatomy, this time with hands, something I find really tough :P
    [IMG]
Going back and experimenting with the chibi style again, but also the textures in metal surfaces.
    Couldn't do day 17, too lazy I guess D;
Too busy to draw on day 19 :(
This was for my mum's birthday, and she liked it! Thank God :3
    [IMG]
Too lazy on day 21 :(
Fan art for Gilded Guy, his animations are frikin awesome!
Messed up the back foot a bit :(
    [IMG]
Working on the anatomy of arms, I actually really like the result of this one, but the hand is a bit derpy :P
    [IMG]
Working on a foot -duh- and it looks kwl, the toes are a bit weird and it's maybe a bit too bendy but eh, it looks kwl.
I guess I'm working through all of the the body at this point, maybe working toward a final piece in anatomy? idk. I think this is kwl, but I may have rushed the shading a biiiit, too much... :P
    [IMG]
    Damn, forgot the nose
    ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I don't think I'll get many if any done from Friday to Monday because I''ll be on holiday, and I don't wanna take my art stuff because I loose frikin everything.
So Yeh I hope to get some awesome final piece out on Tuesday to make up for that :P
Rip, failed crop, ah well icba to do it again :P
    [IMG]
I actually rlly like this one :3
    [IMG]
This is eh, it took way to long because I only had a .3 fine liner on me for inking, so I rushed the sky and now it looks terrible :P
    [IMG]
Pretty kwl, just the hair is too thick and the kicking foot is the frikin wrong way round, I noticed too late :P
    Well, let's just say he broke his ankle D;
Happy Halloween! This is the final piece of the challenge, and I rlly like the result. This one took quite a while, but I wanted the last drawing to be one of the best. Skull to match the date, and also working of facial structure I guess.
    Inktober 31.jpg
Overall I think this project helped me improve my anatomy by leaps and bounds, and using the media more, in fact religiously throughout the month. Yeh it was tough and I didn't get through all of the days but I got most of them done. I managed to keep ideas flowing without the prompts which was kind of a surprise, but I think I'll use them next year because they're more universal :P.

I'm probably not good enough to give advice but try sketching in pencil first and then use single long strokes to ink. Also, it helps me a lot to imagine stuff as simple shapes and then my proportions are not too odd or messed up.

Yeh, I do use a basic sketch with shapes for the anatomy, the first one is just in a more skinny style, the main problem is inking for me :P. That's how I messed up the balloon arm on the second picture and and why the lines are so scruffy.
I'll try to do the long strokes, that's what inktober's about :3

And u are more than qualified to give me advice, I love ur art :3.

For the first, ink in slow lines and don't worry about them being wobbly. To fill in the shadow, use a brush pen or a sharpie - something that fills in better than a fine liner. I think the hair could use a few more lines or more concentrated shading (or both).

For the second, of the balloon is lifting the kid up, his feet should be hanging down. It also looks like you've added some orange highlights, but they're only on the arm and the balloon. Why not the other side of the body? Why is only one arm skin-colored (as the other arm looks like it should hang out of the shirt)?

I fill in gaps using copies :P
With the colour tone, it's supposed to be radiating from the balloon, but it wouldn't show up over some of the dark tones on the face :(
Are you implying that I use a fine liner for the hair?
Yeh the feet are bad, but I didn't have enough room on the page...
The sleeve was supposed to look a bit too long, but the hand is the same tone so can't be differentiated.
And I'll definitely experiment with the slow long lines, ty.

Hey TheCDGame, I have some critique/suggestions for each day of your Inktober so far - I'm happy to see you experimenting and getting experience with new media!

    Day 1:

-Is that 2D from The Gorillaz? Credits to you if so! Regardless, eyebrows go under the hair - not above

-The lollipop matches the shirt and makes it difficult to distinguish. If you move the object in front of the shirt, you wouldn't be able to see it. I'd change the color to maybe a pale yellow to both match the saturation of the shirt and also to go along with the tone established by the belt buckle. It also would be complementary to the pale blue (opposite on the color wheel, good chemistry between hues).

-The feet are different widths and they have different curvatures. Use your own ankle and foot as a reference to see what the position would be like, because I personally don't stand with my feet facing outwards. This can be fixed by 1) using a reference, and 2) moving the feet so they're not pointed at 45 degree angles to the side, out bodies do not work like that naturally.

-The right hand, especially the thumb, is oversized. The lollipop also looks awkwardly gripped, which ties back in to the thumb size. Good job with getting the depth of field right and having the foremost hand larger as it extrudes towards the midpoint.

-The belt is too far down the pants and the pants are too far up the shirt. Easy fix for next time, use yourself as a reference!

-The left hand is beneath the shirt in one place and above it in other. This may be a blending issue, not sure if the smear was intentional or not. Either way, this can be cleaned up by having solid contour lines before applying color!

-The shadows overall are going in different directions. Your light source appears to be hitting the person from their left side, but the shadows are going up and left. If the sun is on the left from the characters perspective, the shadows should extend in the direction that the sunlight is casting.

-Background is very grunge, as is the whole piece - this is entirely okay but make your lines look intentional. The red shape is curved in some areas, jagged in others and a little straight in others as well. Red is a great choice, very strong and absorbs the whitespace surrounding it... but it is a lot more effective when the lines are crisp and intentional. Be confident in your line-work!

    Day 3:

-What is the plant for? It looks dead, absolutely fine, but do something clever with it! Maybe because the balloon is red, you could reflect this and keep balance with dry green leaves at the bottom of the pot's base. The perspective with the plant is awkward - it looks 2d but your character does not, and it is on a flat ground but everything else is not. This can be fixed by slowing down a bit when you add new elements, add them with purpose and put your flare to it. Again, if it does not look intentional it'll seem like you just plopped down objects.

-Not sure what the color on your characters left sleeve is, or why they have no right arm while the jacket is bending as if it should be visible. The left sleeve is oversized compared to the right, as is the left arm length. Before you draw the arms, put your arms by your side and then in the position and take notice of the extension.

-Personal opinion, I'd prefer to see the balloon not going off of the canvas. Also, the balloon has an orange mid-tone and a red base color... this is somewhat distracting, be consistent in your color palette, especially if you're only using one spot color.

-Not sure where the light source is based on the highlights on the face. I'm confused why the face is greyscale and only one arm is a skin tone.

    Day 4:

-Mountain blends into the sky, use shadowing to make the mountain more obvious or play with the sky color.

-The trees should be in perspective - closer towards the foreground they'd be larger, and they would get smaller as you go back to your vanishing point.

-The trees on the left look rushed because your strokes make the leaves look barren in some places and thick in others... I understand that different trees work differently but if these are the same kind then the leaves or firs should correlate.

-The other tree: I'm not sure what's on the ground (grass?), especially if this is meant to be a snow scene. The branches would get smaller as it goes up the trunk - use a real tree outside as reference! Also not sure what is in the trees (fruit?) if it is supposed to be on a mountain.

-I can't tell what the colors behind the tree on the left are. Kind of looks like a beach... which is abstract and that is okay, but I can't really figure out what it is immediately.

-The house is too small for the man logically, and the house looks forced in to the canvas. Remember to use contour lines before diving in to color.

-Thinner strokes would help the person not look as blob-like. Speaking of strokes, make sure you don't rush to get the colors down. Do it with purpose, art takes time!

    Day 5:

-I love the concept of this as well as the negative space usage! Make it more clear by finely establishing where the building reaches the edge of the next wall. I can't tell which wall is which, it looks like one wall that's slightly inverted.

-Don't have bricks angled up if others on the same path are angled down (for this building, it looks confusing and awkward when going to the door)

-Adding a person would make this a lot more of a story, and even more ominous than a building without any defining characteristics.

    Day 6:

-Kind of looks like the AND1 guy with hair (just a side thought)

-The waves just stop to the right of your character, have them continue or gradually fade out!

-The surfboard, based on my little knowledge of surfboard anatomy, is backwards.

-Wave flow is difficult to get down, so definitely use an image or anything resourceful to test out what this would look like (just the water for this)

Yeah, that's my feedback for now. Let me know if you have any questions mate o/
    -Iscariot

Thanks a lot this is a big help!
Day 1- Yes it is gorillaz :3
I'm kind of confused as to what you were saying about shadows, can you please reiterate it because I realize this is something I need to work on
Day 3- The right arm is coloured because it is supposed to represent a glow from the balloon, and with the right arm not being visible, it's supposed to be under the sleeve but I messed up a bit with the shading :(

Day 4- In the origional image the sky didn't blend into the mountains, I think it may have been the lighting. And it is supposed to be like coastal cliffs.

Day 5- I would have added a character but it was a school project on the basis of architecture :P

    Day 6- No comments :P
