Corrupted?

I noticed there are "corrupted" versions of many things. Are these in the nether, or what?

What things? Little more specific please.

For dungeons, there are corrupted versions of them. These are much harder than their regular counterpart, but the rewards are pretty amazing. They are found in The Forgery, which is located near Cinfras (in Gavel).

There are also some items with "Corrupted" in their name, this is (usually) just a thing for their name. Nothing to do with the Nether.

Finally, there are some mobs that are called Corrupted, these are affected by the corruption, which is a dark, evil force which came from the Nether. As far as I know lore, I'm not very caught-up.

 

Oh, sorry if I wasn't specific enough. Yeah, I was meaning dungeons.
I'm assuming that The Forgery is a very large area if it has all these dungeons in it? It looks quite small on the map.

Yeah, the forgery is a small floating "island" above the ground that has a few merchants (which allow you to craft fixed keys and sell you tp scrolls), and a teleporter for each of the dungeons. You get teleported off the map to a "corrupted" version of the normal dungeon, but you can't go very far out. Everything looks on fire and old and lots of nether blocks around. A popular theory is that it is the future, which is more or less confirmed in the Corrupted Underworld Crypt dungeon.

 

What reference does the Corrupted Underworld Crypt give to the place being the future? Is it confirmed in the NPC's dialogue or is it just a theory

Basically, after the boat part you read a note written by General Graken. It says that after you defeated him, Charon and his army rose from the dead, and slayed Grakem's army. This was the most obvious case of corrupted dungeons taking place in the future, but the other dungeons have little hints in them too, like the following dialogue:
Corrupted Witherhead: You've been here before, you shouldn't be alive...

Corrupted Arkadicus(however you spell that) This is a familiar face, hehe, we haven't had a warm meal in many years. You came just at the right time.
There's dialogue from corrupted Garoth too but I can't think of it off the top of my head and I'm too lazy to read the wiki for it.
