SPOILER How Bob Actually Died?

dern isn't a realm that is reached from a portal, it was confirmed by grain in the thread "1.17 update" he said that new thing on the map is dern.

 

Yes, he said he was going to seal it away, hence it being stuck in the cave and dying of age or lack of sustenance. It's clear that the beast grew very large, so it's not like it didn't have any time to escape had it the chance.

Also, just checking, we're still arguing under the assumption that, if part of this theory is correct, then the other part is incorrect/correct, right? Because I'm saying that if the Eye was sealed away by the ancients, like the theory says, then the beast in the sealed letters is most likely that of dead island. In a different scenario, I might think differently.

Like I said before, Bob wasn't stupid. If the Eye was trapped in Dern, then there'd be no reason for him to fight it. A better argument would be that, as said in the Sealed Letters, Bob attempted to seal it away, and there'd be no reason to do that.

He never actually said that. Road to Dern is implying that it's a pathway of sorts that leads into Dern.

What I meant was, when he first wrote the theory @Gert said: "Perhaps the Dernel Jungle is called that because the ancients fled from Dern to Dernel" or something like that, my memory isn't perfect. This line is/was false. Sure, it's possible that the ancients fled from Dern to Dernel, but that's not why it's called that. As you already know, they're named similarly just by pure coincidence.

I thought what that line meant was that the beast was unkillable, not that Bob himself was unable to kill it since he was the strongest warrior and dodnt expect to kill it. Otherwise, it probably would have been like, "I know the only way to kill it is to seal it off."

And while we don't know why the beast didn't leave it the cave, the cave wasn't sealed and Bob probably killed it after years it had hatched, it giving it time to grow and develop. Plus Siwel said that the beast was directly killed, and makes no mention of the cave being sealed. Plus if it was sealed, then why would it suddenly be unsealed? It couldn't have been the beast trying to escape because it's already dead by the time we get there.

Anyways, we can't assume anything about the eye, including why Bob would want to seal it away (if the eye even was the beast).

Though the main reason why I think the beast isn't the one mentioned in the sealed letters is that it would rather be anti-climatic. The Dead Island quest has been here b4 pre-Gavel, and given that the main storyline isn't out, I highly doubt that would be the greatest conflict of the whole game. There is just so much we don't know like how did Bob hear about the beast on the island that it just doesn't fit.

 

These are all great points, and there's not much to say against them because I agree. I'll argue against them for now, but outside of the theory in this thread I don't think the letters refer to the beast from dead island. Guess I'll just clear that up now.

This could just be differing manners of speech, but "killing it is not an option" could easily refer to his own power not being enough to defeat the beast in combat, leading to condemning the beast to natural death.

It's safe to assume a "seal" made to trap a creature like this would be magical as opposed to physical.

These are the best arguments for why it can't be the beast from dead island in the letters. Any attempt to dismiss it would be a big stretch at best. Point is that if it's not the beast from dead island in the letters, then this theory is at least in part wrong.

That's fair, but it also makes sense for Bob to have died fighting, say, the second-in-command of the forces of darkness, and have the player be the one to defeat the Eye.

that is already the size of a small province, and from the look of it, it also looks like there expanding off the back there. do you really believe that whole thing is going to be a god dam portal?
you are clinging onto unlikely player theories.
and if you still think its a portal, explain what that landmass, that just so happens to be the size of a province, in the bottom right is. that would need to be a big ass portal to actually fill that area
and if there is one in the center. then the landmass itself its worthy of being its own province.
