So I build a lot of floating islands in this game, and I mean A LOT
I'm used to build so many of them, but this time I wanted to try something else, a bigger island

It's not extremely large, and it's a build I'll probably use on one of my upcoming maps! (it's supposed to be a savannah floating island)

I wanted feedback because something feels off IMO
oh by the way here's the screenshot (it's the right island)

You've probably seen it- but there's a good build tutorial for sky islands by our good ol' uncle

The smaller ones are great, I think you just tried to make an island just like your small ones but on a larger scale. Techniques usually change when working much bigger with almost any build.

I actually haven't watched the video, i'm gonna do that now
also i've been building these only in vanilla without any plugins (i find that too much work for me to set up eh)!

EDIT: watched it now, it's pretty cool, i don't know if i'll use that as i like my vanilla stuff, but maybe if i use it i could use structure blocks to import the build which would be great!

Much like an iceberg I think the bottom of the floating island need to be a little bit larger then the tops.

Never, and I mean never, do only one spike. Maybe have a main one in the middle, but always have some smaller ones. This looks way better, nice improvement.

personally, please dont kill me, but i strongly dislike that the bottom of wynns islands are just spikes, its too perfect, and in a bad way. i like the idea of the islands to come out of a place, kinda like skyward sword i guess. it would be nicer if they were a bit mis-formed, and i think a thousand meters under does a pretty good job of this, while sky islands are just boring. I would use grians tutorial with a grain of salt, as they really dont look that good. but hey thats just one of few wynn builds i dont love to death, cant win them all

I always thought It'd be cool if there was actual terrain on the bottom, with trees and mountains and plants 'n stuff.

I think the shape for the main island is odd (You made it better with the spikes, but still needs work). The block variation is very inconsistent, and you would probably get a better design by using WE commands, rather than hand placing. Instead of doing random blocks scattered across the islands base, try placing them in more scattered chunks in place of regular blocks. The terrain on the top is basic, but isn't the worst I've seen and easily fit the terrain on the top, but I think more can be desired which ultimately is up to you.

As for the placement of the islands, feels a little to lackluster, as some are just placed in a straight line on almost the same plane as others. I like the design for the islands, taking more of a desert feel compared to the regular floating island builds, which in the most part are fantasy forest types. However, this is where my biggest problem with this build is...

Remove bonemealed tree's ASAP, they don't look good and really only exist to hurt your build, and should never be used under any circumstances. Custom tree's aren't the worst to make, and there are a surprising amount of "tutorials" (most of them are literally just them building a tree with EDM in the background).

I wasn't expecting so much feedback, thank you!
I usually make my own basic trees, but there's a reason why I use vanilla trees
This map is supposed to be a sort of skyblock map (the same as the one in my boss altar thread if you seen it)!
I wanna stick to the vanilla feel as much as with biomes and stuff, that's why using custom trees would be «out of place» imo

As for the placement of the islands, they weren't all loaded (this map is very different from your typical skyblock), that's why some of these are oddly placed. I did this for internal testing, it looks better when playing normally!
