    Quite simply, they work exactly as the work in Vanilla Minecraft.

    Place the boat down in water, by right clicking, and right click again to get inside of it.
    Once you are inside, you steer using the moving controls (W,S,D,A)

    In 1.9+ boats sink due to a compatibility issue. I think they work somewhat in 1.8.9. You're better off using the Seaskipper, which you can find at the dock on most islands and at Nemract.
