Life/mana Steal?

So, I don't know how Life Steal and Mana Steal really work.

Is it that after 3-4 seconds of hitting, you get the effect? Or is it that when you hit an enemy and don't attack them for 3-4 seconds, you get the effect? Or maybe it's that it just gives you the effect over 3-4 seconds when you attack the enemy?

This answer might be easy to answer, but I was kept in the dark from this for a long time now. I need to know how it works, so I can determine how I can really use it to my advantage instead of just hitting enemies with the effect and hoping it will give me the effect eventually.

 

It should be that hitting the enemy will cause you to steal 3-4 seconds after. (Pretty sure)

 

It's a % chance based on your weapons attack speed (including tier attack) for each mob you hit w/ left click (right for archer)

 

%chance to get it depending on attack speed, it will generally take effect every 4 seconds of combat

 

True except for the 4 sec part.

Hm. Since super slow takes about 2 secs per hit and about 90% of times i hit something life steal activates, thats not true.
