Noob Needs Help Understanding Game Mechanics

I am confused on how elements work. Say I have a weapon that has 50-60 neutral damage and 70-80 fire damage. Would I always do 120-140 damage? Or just against fire enemies? Or would I just do 70-80 damage against fire enemies? Helping me understand would be greatly appreciated.

 

Any enemy that is not weak nor resistant to fire will take 120-140 damage from both the neutral and fire damage, if an enemy is weak to fire, they will take more damage from your fire damage, while your neutral damage will stay the same, and the same goes for enemies resistant to fire, they'll just take less damage from fire, your neutral damage will stay the same though.
