SPOILER Odd Thing Relend Says In Fantastic Voyage.

Dern is a realm that was completly destroyed by something.. it has to do with a thing called "the eye" if I am not mistaken

 

Supposedly, in Aldorei's Secret II it's confirmed to be the cause of the decay. Nobody has any idea why or how though... :-/

If Dern is a realm, how come it's located on the overworld map while the Realm of Light isn't?

 

Do we have confirmation of it being on the overworld? Maybe you need to go through a Portal to enter it

 

That's what I thought b4 the map update, but I'm pretty sure it's Dern because it's dark and in the exact location the lore said it's supposed to be.

 

The thing is that we may have entered a part of dern in fantastic voyage. We know that it is a destroyed place and if you look at the Name of the Mobs there you would realize that they are from another realm or world even. Also, the Portal on the Island looks like it has started corrupting Parts of the Island at the Walls. Taking into consideration that Bob was there,too, and fought something really strong. So what if Bob fought "the eye" ? He probably lost but that is another theory.. Anyways, what I was saying is, that we probably entered a part of dern through a portal

 

It's a possibility, it does seem likely that it would be Dern. However, Dern is supposed to be an endgame, final area so just having it for a part of a single lvl 90 quest doesn't make that much sense. Also if Dern is supposed to exist in the overworld, then how come it's only accessible via portals like how the realms are?

 

Remember that this is wynn so magic is a possibility. It could be that dern is split in different Parts ruled by different creatures and that there simply is a spell to split dern from the rest of the Planet or world or whatever

 

I guess, we will have to see then... Soon^TM ;)

 

I don't know why people think Dern is a realm

 

Yolo theory:
Here are something that we know about Gavel:
Gavel and the Light Realm are linked and the Portal to the Light Realm is located in Gavel (The Realm of Light)
As linked to the Light Realm, Gavel use to be the province of purity (as confirmed by elves in Aldorey's secret)
With the greed of the villagers, The Light Realm got weakened, allowing seed of corruption to enter it, I think those seeds represent greed.
As the Realm of Light start being corrupted, The light in Gavel began to fade, creating the Decay.


Some Thing wich are probable for Dern (for my theory, I'll consider them true)
Dern and The Realm of Darkness (is it how we call it?) are linked and the portal to this realm is located in Dern
Dern is supposed to be a land of Darkness as linked to the Dark Realm


It really look like dern and Gavel are the perfect opposite: (here start the theory)
And what if during the 1000 past year, just like Gavel was slowly sinking into Darkness, Dern was going back to Light?

let me explain:
Villagers use to live in a perfect land, having nearly whatever they want.
But the more you have the more you want, the perfection of this land create greed which create the Decay which will destroy purity in Gavel.
Dern's Inhabitants use to leave in a dark land.
But by living in the dark, what do you want the most? You want the light to rise.

Just like the greed does in Gavel, the desire for Light to come would crete seeds wich would "corrupt" the Dark Realm

Conclusion: Gavel and Dern, just like The Light Realm and The Dark Realm are in a constant cycle between purity and corruption, Gavel is becoming darkness and Dern is becoming Light.
Wynn, Is linked to another Portal which lead to the nether, a corrupted place where the Realm of Light and Darkness are fighting but this realm haven't been always corrupted, when dark and light were in a stable stage (1000 years ago), This place was just a neutral place, between light and Darkness, just as Wynn.
So, The Coruption in wynn is the symbol of the fight between Light and Dark While they are switching.

I Had this idea while reading this thread so I haven't spend that much time looking for clues wich can demonstrate or not my theory. (btw it's the dirst time i do a theory, so be indulgent)

Anyway, I would be happy to know what you think about it :D

@C4rdiaK @Rujala @SPYROHAWK I agree that The realm of darkness is to Dern as The Light Realm and Nether are to Gavel and Wynn, respectively. What we experienced on Gateway Isle is a portal, not to Dern, but to the Dark Realm itself, hence the "Otherworldly Inhabitants". The destroyed homes we see are not surprising, since there are civilizations in the Light Realm, as well, home to the Heliolux. Secondly, I see mentions of connections to some "Eye". This sparked my memory about the quest "Eye of the Storm", in which you obtain a summoning item referred to as the Eye of Blood. A particular line of dialogue always stuck in my mind from that quest. When nearing the final battle with Naragath, the Demon Prince, he makes a comment(, not listed in the official quest dialogue on the wiki mind you,) about ruling this world like the 'other one', suggesting that he has already destroyed one realm with his powers. He also makes many references to darkness, as do the other characters in the quest. What world looks like it could have been ravaged by a demon prince with the power of darkness, AND seems to be a separate realm (accessible only by portal)? The Realm of Darkness, later discovered in Fantastic Voyage.

 

I agree with everything up to guy from Eye of the Storm being the BBEG. He's a demon to be sure, but nothing compared to The Eye

If you want another EotS and Dern connection, check the origin of the gen used to summon him

To most people (or theory makers at least) "The Eye" is the beast in the Realm of Darkness who (according to some theories) took over Dern.

Wynn Excavation worships it, Bob died to it, and the Ancients are scared as hell of it
