Corruption is a combination of light and dark forces, Decay is just everything falling apart/dying.

If we do take it literally, it is possible that this is a Sucorru parasite that somehow hopped from the realm of light to the Physical plane. If not, then we could simply interpret it as the corruption in R.O.L directly affecting Gavel in the form of the decay due to the link between their energies... But the problem is

In "The Realm of Light" Heliorion says " Something broke into our realm decades ago"... Decades being the key word. If the thing that broke in decades ago created the Corruption of Orphion, who represents the R.O.L's physical power, further causing the corruption of R.O.L and then spreading to Gavel as the decay... That wouldn't make sense. Because the parasite only went to the R.O.L decades ago, which most likely means in the last 100 years since they said decades not centuries... The decay began 1000 years ago. So unless this is a typo, we don't really know what caused the decay, or the proper sequence of events, to be honest..

Orphion IS the realm of light... He is the physical representation of it... It says that the parasite broke in a few decades ago.. The parasite that infects orphion created the sucorru parasites. If the parasites only happened a few decades ago, then what caused the decay 10 CENTURIES, or 1000 years ago?

 

The decay is connected to Earth/Thunder and Thunder/Water, and is connected to the slow destruction of light and the slow death of life in the area it affects. It also comes from a parasite that infected both the realm of light and Gavel. The Corruption is associated with Thunder/Fire and is associated with reanimating the dead, corrupting beings to make them hostile, and turning the surrounding land into fire and brimstone (like Corrupted Dungeons and the Roots of Corruption) and happened because Humanity opened a portal into the nether.

Actually, it ain't that easy. Simply, the villagers greed caused the light in Gavel to start to go out, which caused the decay. The more complex answer, it has to do with the seeds in gavel. Darkness Decay Corruption and Desolation. That part even I don't fully get

 

Remember how they used to have the date of the portal opening (which coincided with the beginning of the decay) as 100, there is your answer. Its a simple thing that got missed as they changed the date.

Either that or it was very hard for the succoru parasites to finally get to Orphan even after infiltrating the realm. I mean it would be very hard to defeat the physical representation of the Realm of Light.

 

Whats the evidence that the decay started 1000 years ago? I'm pretty sure that is when gavel closed their borders with wynn.

 

Gavel was not the one to close their borders - their borders were always closed. Fruma closed off its borders 1000 years ago, only letting a few recruits to emigrate only recently. Could you try to explain to the complex answer to the best of your ability? I have a basic knowledge of it... How the parasite broke into the realm of light, corrupted Orphion, then made the sucorru parasites, which create seeds of in the realm of light which create and spread corruption.. But in Taproot we see the black worm coming out of the Earth. Is that a sucorru parasite or something else?
