What Causes The Decay In Gavel

Simple question, but I'm looking for very very detailed answer. In your answer try to make sure that no questions are left unanswered (unless it isn't known) and provide evidence pls... Like just reference the quest name, etc.

I think it's the dark parasite, that you see in taproot's quest line. Similar to the in the light realm and the one that corrupted that light beast, Orphion.

The source of the corruption in the Realm of Light are the Succoru parasites, creatures of darkness that were spawned by the greater parasite that initially corrupted Orphion. These creatures feed on light, and create eggs or “seeds”, which spread the corruption further. This corruption can affect both the terrain, and other living creatures nearby (such as Heliolux).

Link with Gavel
The light energy of the realm is directly linked to the life force of the Gavel province (centered around the Dark and Kander forests), and this bond plays a key role in the ongoing War of the Realms. During the Taproot quest, the Taproot itself states that the Realm of Light draws its energy from the goodness in Gavel, keeping both regions strong while Gavel remains pure. When the greed in Gavel began to take over and connection between the province and the realm, the darkness broke through into the Realm of Light and began spreading corruption, in the form of the Succoru parasites. As the realm became corrupted, the darkness spread into Gavel in the form of the decay.

That's all well and good... but... The heliolux says that the parasite that corrupted Orphion broke in decades ago... The decay began 1000 years ago... :p

Why would they say decades... Why not just say centuries? Also, if the decay is due simply to the fact that Gavel's Life is linked to the wellbeing of the Realm of Light, then what is the "worm" we see in Taproot?

What is your evidence for saying that the worm is a Succoru parasite? And yeah @Tantibus , in the quest The Realm of Light Heliorion says that something broke into the realm of light decades ago... Should it be centuries instead, or is this intentional?

It's the Villager's greed. I'm pretty sure, anyway. The parasite that came from space in Taproot started it, and the greed 'amplified' it. (I think.)
