Finally.

After many, many months of coding, testing and frustration, I present to you the first demo of:

- DELVE -

What is Delve?

• Delve is a rogue-like game with elements of an RPG. Your goal is to traverse a massive structure that has come to be known as 'The Ruin', an age-old building that was said to be built because of a fascination of a cult to find out what happened if you dig to the bottom of the earth. You play as a girl named Aver, whose brother is an archaeologist and has been gone for months. You delve deep into The Ruin to search for your brother and hopefully save him from whatever perils he may be in.

What is there to offer as of now?

• One playable character. More will come in the future.
• Two enemies. Quite boring, but they are just placeholder for the enemy system.
• One boss. Again, placeholder for the boss system.
• Ten weapons to play with, and some health upgrades as loot.
• Chests with items in them.
• Procedural Generation; the dungeon is always different.
• Health bar, inventory, minimap images as the GUI. More things to come for the future.
• Simple lighting system.

That's cool and all, but can I play it?

• Yes - if you are on PC. Sorry for mac users, but I will have a mac executable later down the track, it just isn't on my priority list right now.

• Controls: WASD, Shift to Sprint, E to open chests, Left click to attack.

Are you going to finish this one?

• Yes, I plan to finish this game (Unlike the last one... hehehe). You can trust me with that.

Do you need help with anything?

• Not necessarily. The only thing I'd need help with is item, enemy and boss ideas. If you've got an idea that you'd think would be cool and would fit in, please share it and if I like it enough I'd add it in.

It'd be easier to think of weapons and bosses if there was more lore behind it. A setting at least.

Add potions though!

 

How did you make it?

 

Yeah, that's true. I'm trying to hold back on that though, as to make it purposeful to play through the game to uncover the story. What I'm looking for in ideas are generally misc items and bosses that don't really associate with the story. Potions are a definite, too.

Some suggestions


-Magic.
-Puzzles
-Traps (Hidden pitfalls, enemy hordes, etc.)
-Chances (Why not drink this totally suspicious liquid that could heal or more likely kill you?)
-Multiple floors
-Defensive items & accessories
-Difficulty levels for the narcissists among us
-More variables other than damage & hp (Knockback, poison, crit, etc)


I also can't wait to hear whatever killer music you create for it :D

Oooh, looks like a very cool game already!
Can you block forever and take no damage? Or is blocking just reduced damage?
Also, a recommendation for the energy sword, just lower hit speed drastically.

 

I'll make it so you only have a limited amount of blocks soon, so yeah atm you can block forever.
I think if I lower it drastically it would make the weapon a bit too weak... Maybe somewhere in the middle
