Media Higher Level = Richer? - Results - Wealth:level Correlation

Hi, last week I set off to tackle one of the game's running rumours, wealth distribution and its relation with player level, I'll try to break it down in to small parts for y'all to understand

Rationale
Higher total level give player access to more content in grinding, questing and looting, as well as more time spent in game gives player a higher chance to obtain more valuable items*. While total level does not equal to the effort put in game, its just a simplified measurement and representation.

*why not use total time spent on server?
- total time spent on server is known to be bugged, although its speculated to be on a equal scale (more time listed = more time played although not exact), its not verified whether this is true or not, also I'm bad and forgot this is a good idea so just bare with me plz ;-;

Method
A survey was conducted with 185 responses received with 165 valid results*, while I estimate wynncraft's active population to be around 2500 (1200 in weekend peak time so I double that) results collected only represent 6.7% of the population, its ok...ish. Results are then put in IBM SPSS for analysis, aka a fancy statistic software for plotting graphs and giving me a hard time doing homework.

*invalid results due to trolls (yes quite a lot of trolls)

Results

Spoiler: tl;dr

Median wealth is 172.5LE ~ 2.7 stacks, mean wealth is 444LE ~7 stacks. Wealth distribution is RIP but its not because of a lot of people are rich while a lot of people are poor, but instead most of the population have similar wealth with the exception of some rich fellows.

There is a medium to large effect for wealth and level correlation, meaning level up in total levels does increase your wealth, but this effect is most significant under level 500.

There will be a short summary at the end of each part.

for those of you that do not fear the depths of statistics, oh boy, here we go.

Part A. Wealth Distribution and Outliers
- First step in conducting any statistical analysis is to remove any significant outlier. Outliers are samples that severely affect the mean value due to extreme score (too higher or too low), in this case they are known as ERP, Extremely Rich People.
- From Figure 1 we can see all the dots and stars are outliers, and stars are significant outliers meaning they are very extreme scores, so they will be removed when calculating sample means and conclusion

This is a box plot, the thick line almost at the bottom is the median wealth, and all the dots above the box plot is the outliers (ERP). Out of 165 samples, 11 of them are significant outliers.

Secondary box plot is shown, there are another sets of outliers but since fundamental outliers are removed these are preserved.


After removing outlier, a descriptive statistic analysis is conducted (outliers removed)

Worth noting findings are Mean = 444 (SD = 610) with the Skewness of 9.32 (SE = .20) and Kurtosis of 6.75 (SE = .391), Median score is 173, I.Q. = 474.

Summary to Part A
There is a large wealth difference among the community, but not because of some are poor and some are rich, but instead most of the community concentrated on 172.5 LE ~3 stacks, 75% of population have less than 500LE ~7.8 Stacks.

Part B. Wealth and Level Correlation
Wealth and level correlation is relatively easy to analyse

From the scatterplot we can see that there is a line-of-best-fit of the increase in wealth along with the level, but most the effect is most significant under total level 500. This may be caused by lack of higher total level players participating in the survey, or this also reflect that most of the population are under 500 total level.

A correlation analysis is then conducted

r(164)=.372, p < .001
Pearson's r shows that there is a medium to large effect (.372) in the wealth and level correlation. The p value is <.05 meaning the correlation is significant.

Summary to Part B
Theres a medium to large effect in wealth and level correlation, and its the most significant under total level 500.

I remember that I submitted 1010 Levels with the max amount of LE possible if I had a stack of LE in every slot in every class including the bank. Sad that it didn't make it in. (Or did it? o.o) xD

There's a medium to large effect between wealth and level correlation, meaning that it's not 100% correlated, but a relationship is still present. This trend is also strongest when level number is under 500.

That's basically the main point you need to understand from all this data.
The rest is just math statistics that will probably confuse most people on Wynn haha
