In this scenario there are not three, but four areas of interest: the starting side, the road, the other side of the road, and the "Other Side", representing Heaven or death. The original chicken scenario could be seen two different ways: either it wants to get to the other side of the road, or it is suicidal and wants to die via a car impact, taking him to the "Other Side".

Therefore, if we look at the second scenario, then the chicken would not reach the "Other Side" regarding its death, but it would still cross the road and reach the other side of the road. The first scenario I gave you used the literal meaning, while this one is more symbolic.

Therefore, the "Other Side" is not equal to the other side of the road, and the chicken avoids death, ending on the other side of the road but not the "Other Side" regarding the spiritual realm.
