What's The Golden Root Used From?

Golden root, a shiny melon with a seemingly small drop chance from the "golden cow" mob. I've been holding this in my inventory for ages now, what is it used for? Is it completely useless or can it be sold somewhere? I tried the melon merchant, but appearantly he only sells you things. It would be weird for this thing to be useless considering its rarity.

I think it's just a fun little collectors item, like Mandragora Nectar. It's not worth anything, it's just a rare chance to obtain it from a certain mob.

I found one, too. The Golden Cow spawned near the shrine where Wood Sprites spawn for The Ultimate Weapon.
