    Hello Wynncraft,

Recently, I completed the Hollow Sirene quest where a Banshee has deafened an inhabitant of Kander Forest. At the end of the quest, he asks for the Player Character's (PC) name. In his disabled state, he makes a few guesses at the name, but fails to produce the correct one.

The attempted names are Deren Teena, Carline Chena and Thwan Yahya. Now it must be said that the Player Character's name is likely whatever name the player assigns to. However, in the canonical sense where a name would be written in Wynn's history books of the human from Fruma who accomplished so many feats, it is likely that there would be One Name. This is supported as NPCs have coherently heard your name in the past, such as the King of Ragni who asks your name before you start your adventure into Wynn:

    • Ragni's King: You must be the last recruit! Finally nice to meet you. What did you say your name was?
    • Ragni's King: What a peculiar name. Anyway, welcome to the province of Wynn!

I believe other characters have commented on the name and how strange it is. Likely this is because it is an Fruman name and not commonly heard amongst the Gavellian and Wynnic names, given that the recruits from Fruma have started to arrive fairly recently.

One factor that must be considered is that canonically you as a character are only meant to be one of many recruits that come to Wynn, hence the narrative allows the many PCs running about. It is likely why the GM team keep the PC's name ambiguous, so not to narrow players down to an individual. However, the paradox here is that each PC completes the same quests as every other player - in a realistic sense, once the first person completes a quest, the NPC's problem need to give a quest to anyone else disappears. Therefore, I find it more likely that further on in development, the PCs are considered to be one person, as is a common solution in many MMORPGs.

Let us go back to the misheard names: Deren Teena, Carline Chena and Thwan Yahya. They would all seemingly be random names. The last name would appear to be an entire easter egg in itself, referring the Mushroom Man himself as a surname and possibly a mutative lisp of 'Twain' for the first name. However, what is common in all of the three combinations of names is the 'a' sound. It is likely to end with the 'na' sound of the first two combinations, as the third possesses only one syllable for its first name as opposed to the previous two syllable first names. Deren and Carline appear to be similar although not rhyming and perhaps leaves it open for the canonical PC name to be female or male. I ran the names through an word combination programme and some reasonable names seem to be Derren, Darline or the names themselves. It is most likely that the first and last name both have two syllables.

So for this theory, I have two requests:
    1) Have you come across any other reference to the PC's name in dialogue or any known Fruman names?
    2) If anyone has a deep understanding of linguistics, what would be an educated guess at amalgamating these names?

    Thank you
    Rocko

Peculiar name is most likely referring to people who use something similar to xXx_MLGWynner_xXx.

I think a mod said the mispronounced names in Hollow Sirene were just references to "JOHN CENA"

A good observation, it could equally apply to a lengthy IGN if outside the canon or particular Fruman name inside the canon.

Ah, it'd be a pity if so, it would be clear if the first name was also one syllable. Still, if anyone knows of anymore references to the PC's name, I'd be glad to hear of it.

So this has been discussed before, but not to the depth that you go into it!

The basic agreement (keep in mind, common agreement does not mean correct) is that they character's name is the players In Game Name. This means for me, my name in Wynn would by SPYROHAWK.

The fact that many people call the player's name strange or just don't understand it is a reference to the fact that some people can have really strange usernames (anything with XX_ (something) _XX or numbers).

Also, yeah, its pretty much canon theres only one "player" in Wynn.

    ---

But I do find it interesting that you are using language clues to turn over popular belife and find a name!

(although I myself am in support of the player-name theory)

    ---

Also, just btw, you make great theories! Like, Grand Theorist level. I wonder if we can do something with you yet...

Yes, I must admit I am a bit disappointed it is a reference to a meme. Much in the same way when I found out the legendary hero of Wynn was named Bob. It is intended for humour, but hold connotations of a children's television show that doesn't really fit in with the feel of an epic storyline of a war between corruption and light that Wynncraft seeks to achieve. Theorising about Bob then seems trivialised to me - Robert would have been more fitting, and then perhaps known as Bob to only to his close friends in life. In the early quests in Nemract, there is reference to a hero called Ragnar. I do wonder if that was the GM's team original character for Wynn's legendary hero. Although judging by the grammar the Quest NPCs use, Ragnar would be contemporary with the PC, inconsistent with Bob's lifetime.

I'm not certain, but I believe NPC's pointing out the peculiarity in your name is a reference to how all too many usernames are, for example; xXZeroSlayurXx483.

Yes, this is likely how the GM intended it as. However, we must make sense of it in a lore perspective. As I and Spyrohawk said:

Therefore, the One Name of the PC could be xXZeroSlayurXx483, but then it could not also be xXx_MLGWynner_xXx. Again, it can be taken both ways, that type of IGN or a unusual Fruman name.

Anyone metion the tubes/hourglasses in death's realm? There are ones for main characters, and one is marked "You"

Could we take that literally? A name like "You" would be quite odd, would it not?

Just sayin', I am human and can, and will, be wrong when it comes to assumions like this, but food for thought none the less.

is it marked with a capital "Y" for "you"? If so this could help provide more proof for the name "You".... OR "You" could be how it's pronounced meaning the name could be Yoo, Eu, U, Yu, etc.
