Do you even know what you are saying? Earth counters thunder which is water's weakness. Add some fire defense (gaea hewn boots for example) and you have yourself 0 weaknesses. Earth/Water is easily one of the best elemental combos tied with fire/thunder and thunder/air.

You will not have pretty much any defensive skill points, which makes you next to useless in PvP.
For PvE is is good though.

Well, I could try making a build right here.

    Pisces
    Hetusol? Leo?
    Vaward
    Gaea-Hewn Boots
    Concentration
    Concentration
    Squid Anklet
    Calming Torc/Royal Stormy

    Idol for weapon.

Pretty straightforward build. Damage+Tank+healthregen from armour, mana from accessories+weapon. Take enough intelligence for Idol, enough strenth for Pisces, enough defense for Hetusol and then put the remaining points anywhere you feel like.
Feel free to replace the Hetusol with anything, I just couldn't think of any other items there. Maybe a Leo? Anything with HP-regen works, but if you want to do PvP, you won't need hp regen and you can use anything you want for chestplate.

    ->
Decent damage, good mana regen and capacity, can tank hits to some extent because of good HP and elemental defenses.
This is not purely water+earth, but only water/earth is way too squishy.

I made a earth/water build for mage a while ago, focussing on melee and spell damage. dont know if its any good, but here it is:
    Pisces
Azurite, or Taurus if you don't mind super slow attack speed
    Vaward or Clock Leggings
Either Sodeta/Memento for mana regen/spell damage (probably Sodeta as you dont have a heal spell), or Seismosoul for both melee and spell damage (I think atleast, item guide isn't working for me atm)

For rings almost anything with melee damage, spell damage or mana regen will do, you can use Giant's Ring and Moon Pool Circlet for example.
    Squid Anklet for mana regen.
Royal Dusty for spell and melee damage, or Willpower for more mana regen.

As main weapon I don't know if there's any spear with melee and spell damage (because item guide isn't working), I guess you can use Tidebinder with earth powders, if it doesn't reduce melee damage?

As second weapon (for earth/water defense enemies) something you can use with your skill points that can do thunder, air and fire damage (with powders), if you cant find anything you can use Bob's Mythic with powders.

As third weapon (for rainbow tanks) Tisaun's Proof / Braker / Infused Hive Spear, with no powders

Skill points: I had these skill points for my mage build: 70 0 70 58 0 (at level 100, at lower levels you can put less points into def I guess)
But I think Tidebinder requires 80 int, so if you don't get +10 int from your gear, put a bit less points into def.

Say you’re using Pisces - Azurite - Vaward - Sodeta Boots - Giant’s Ring - Moon Pool Circlet - Squid Anklet - Royal Dusty Amulet, you will have:

    10275 health

    % melee damage: 20% - 58% (average 39%)

    raw melee damage: 68 - 293 (average 180.5)

    % spell damage: 21% - 74% (average 47%)

    no raw spell damage

    mana regen: 5/4s - 9/4s (average 7/4s)

(if I calculated everything correctly of course)

You'll have a bit more mana regen and spell damage if using Tidebinder, all of this is excluding weapon

Your elemental defenses are probably pretty shit, but you have 10k health, a bit of defense and you can use powders on your armour.

So yea, I hope this is kinda good :I

Yeah so that won't work, and not enough intelligence for Idol... Idk then I'll search for a good spear when wynnapps/item guide work again.

    Maybe Bizzles?
Boosts spell and melee damage by 5-20%, boosts earth and water damage, already has earth damage and 2 powder slots.

I hope you realize that defense skill points don't do shit since they only affect neutral damage and with everyone using powders people won't be doing neutral damage to you… Element defense is what matters in PvP and you will have plenty of it along with no elemental weaknesses if you don't randomly choose Hetusol as a chest plate. Not to mention if you use a weapon that is actually meant for earth/water you will have 30 defense points which is enough to survive in PvE. (Most mobs only deal elemental damage anyway) So how exactly is earth/water squishy? You have literally no weaknesses and if for some reason you choose something that fucks up your defense (Hetusol) you can easily kill the mob that would deal that element of damage since earth counters thunder which counters water. (Same goes for fire/thunder and thunder/air which is why I said they were extremely strong elemental combos)

Idol is meant for pure water, not multi element. Spring/Gaia/Grandmother work much better with earth/water.

Azurite would be better than Hetusol. Chestplate of Ineptitude also works well since Gaea Hewn Boots and Vaward counter its negative stats. Hetusol is generally shit unless you are specifically using it for its health regen and have items to counter its -damages and -defenses. Then again why would you want health regen if you were using an earth/water weapon. (Spring already has hp regen, grandmother's -hp regen is a buff since it lets you use the rage ability effectively, gaia is a wand a mages have heal.

With earth/water you can focus on both melee and spells so why are you wasting your accessory slots with mana regen items when all you need is 5/4s mana regen. (This is why CoI works great) Druids ring would fit better than concentration. Let your melee hits make up for the lack of spell spam.

TLDR: Earth/Water is extremely powerful and you aren't using it correctly nor do you know what you are talking about. Just because you made a build that uses earth/water and dies easily (when it really doesnt) doesn't mean earth/water is bad. If you are making an earth/water build and don't know what items to use, try one of the blue gem set pieces. (Despite being uniques they are some of the strongest items in the game) If you wanted to say an elemental combo sucks then it would be earth/thunder, thunder/water, or air/earth. (They don't suck at all, but the elements do counter each other)

Sorry for acting a bit rude, but I wanted to get this point across.

    Yeah,
I did not actually think of the defense skill points only reducing neutral dmg taken. Thanks for pointing that out, I knew it but I just recently discovered it and forgot it.
(Spring, Gaia and Grandmother are not spears, therefore they cannot be used in the build.)
What I had in mind was pure water damage boosted by the strength damage increase, with good mana regen and mana capacity + good elemental defenses. The Hetusol was a bad idea; I just wanted to use it as a regen item for PvE-purposes, but when def skill points actually suck there is no reason to invest 55 defense for it. Thanks again for opening my eyes, I was not paying attention to enough things. I'll quickly craft a new build for this, this time I'll put some more thought to it.
It has been a pleasure discussing this with you, thanks for teaching me these things. :D Have a good day!

When I said Spring/Gaia/Grandmother I was talking about earth/water builds in general. For the spear, Braker would probably be the best. Bizzles works too, but rip attack speed. (There's also a lvl 70 earth/water spear, but I don't think it's strong enough to be viable for endgame)

    Alright, here goes:

    Pisces
    Azurite
    Vaward
    Gaea-Hewn Boots
    2x Concentration
    Squid Anklet
    Royal Dusty Amulet
Braker with 2x Water VI and 2x Earth VI (I believe it has 4 powder slots) (check out a lvl 85 water-earth spear called Bizzles, could it work?)

Base skill points: 33 def, split the rest between str and int in any way you like.

This one has a tiny bit of negative thunder defense, but very good other defenses, high mana, high spell damage and high melee damage. Braker makes you very slow, but you can use leap to move.
I'm not completely sure about the weapon. How terrible would it be to make an earth damage focused build using int for mana capacity+regen, and use an Alkatraz with it?

I don't think you will have enough skill points to use Alkatraz. (Alkatraz also has -100% water damage and no powder slots) Bizzles would work, but Braker is better. There's nothing wrong with using lots of mana regen with earth/water, but you don't really need more than 5/4s unless you are assassin/archer. One concentration, druids ring/jester ring, bovine cuff/jester bracelet, and royal stormy amulet would be a better fit imo.
