What Do The Stars Next To Items Mean?

There is a star next to a stat of the item. Does this mean that it 100% best stat you can get from that item or something else?

Why do some things have 2-3 stars next to the stat.

 

no stars = bad
* = gud
** = rly gud
*** = perfect

 

One star means pretty good. Two stars is close to max. Three stars is max. At least I think so.

 

To add on to what has already been stated, max can sometimes be denoted with only one or two stars, due to the max stat being too low for the game to count the stat as high enough past the stat's base value for more stars.

Also, note that negative identifications and identifications at a value of 0 cannot have stars.

 

Yeah I've noticed this. One of my rings of generosity has ***, but the other one with the same stat has **.
