Speculation Well, This Is New

I, like many others, have finished ??? already, but I'm not satisfied with the ending. There was so much build up, 3 brand new meteors, each with their own unique and challenging puzzle which had to be solved in order to reach them and a bunch of lore, but in the end, all we got was what we already knew....
Yahya, Nohno and Mehme went insane studying the meteors. We knew this, and all this quest did was give us a little bit of back story (we now know that they each had their own lab and studied several meteors).
Interesting, yes, but it didn't require a brand new quest. They could have simply stuck the lore in without going to the trouble of making a brand new quest, but they thought it worth while, even though the final NPC has the same lore as before....

I believe that there's another piece to this puzzle, one that we missed, like the old easter egg, and there's evidence to support my theory.

Go back to Lab N and read the signs. I don't have the exact quote, but Nohno mentions keeping his "most dangerous experiments in this lab". If you've gone through the lab, you know that there are no such experiments in there (there is an area that looks like a door, though). It could just be a sort of flavor text, but I doubt that was their intention.

Additionally, look at the Rusted Laboratory Key. The model is different from a regular key, for starters, and the lore of it is intriguing ("An old key acquired from a mysterious laboratory"). I've heard a lot of people say that it's used to access the door in the white meteor, but has anyone actually bothered to try opening the door for the first time without it? We get our permissions updated when we enter the final room of Lab N, as I recall, whether or not we grab the key, and the thing itself doesn't even look like it would be used for that door. It's rusted, broken and found in the final room of a secret, highly advanced lab. Aside from the final part, it doesn't seem like it would be used to open the room of another secret, highly advanced lab which is able to grant a user access based on their permission level. Rather, it seems like something you would use to open an old room (remember those experiments?).

I decided to test my theory, so I went back into the white meteor, tossed the key on the ground once, picked it back up, ran to the door, pressed the button aaaaand.....



Interesting, is it not?

Additionally, it says that your permissions update at the end of the quest....

Like, what about the plates in Ragni prison, ancient Nemract, etc.?

 

We could try them, but they seemed to teleport you into Lab N

You probably can't access the door because your key's NBT updated and it no longer works on the door.

 

You entered lab N by using the magical feather or a pressure plate combo in Yahya's lab.

 

I am aware, but that was also where the pressure plates warped you. Chances are, it was a scrapped part of the quest.

 

Has anyone noticed that no staff member has explicitly denied that those 4 pressure plates are no longer part of the quest? Sure, they appear to teleport you into lab N, but what if it is a different version of that lab or another lab altogether?

Like mentioned above, there should be a lab somewhere with the most dangerous experiments, yet so far those have been nowhere to be found!

Just like Yahya's hopper was one of the first things we found and it didn't work until we found and completed other parts of the quest, these 4 pressure plates across Wynn may require us to find yet another part of the quest we haven't discovered yet that only unlocks when you "complete" the quest and your permissions are updated.

Then, once we've discovered, solved, and completed those steps, our permissions will be updated once again, allowing us to use the 4 Wynn pressure plates which teleport us to the true final lab.

Tl;dr We might be missing even more steps post-quest-"completion" before the 4 scattered Wynn plates will work.

 

Well... Closest we've gotten to confirmation was a like from Lotem on @Lei's post on my thread. Her post said that the plates were most likely to track down hackers or cheaters that wanted to be clever.

 

Methinks we arent out of the torture chamber just yet...

Not really. That part of the key theory is now proved false, yes, but there are still many mysteries left.
For instance, what do our updated permissions allow us to do? Who cast the spell on the white meteor? What were Nohno's "most dangerous experiments"?
