This isn't the only reward you can get. I get a rare item called Shadestep.

 

There are SUPPOSEDLY 3 items from every altar.
A unique.
A rare.
A between-rare-and-legendary quality rare with lore.

 

@DatRandomGuy and I farmed this altar a bit and found this:



Not a terrible weapon to be honest.

 

Anyone recall that odd number I had shown? 262-something or other? That was the combined total health of the original Blade of Shade enemy. It has been adjusted since then however(the new total is 360750 health), and something of note is that it is not meant to split into more than two enemies at once.



Each form is set to spawn two of the next, until you get to the fifth and last form. However, the bug that allows you to kill mobs twice can cause them to split further, making this boss potentially much tougher than it ought to be.

Of note is that each different form has a different percentage chance to use their spells, and with each progressive form, their Multihits spell becomes stronger.

I remember getting to this boss altar and starting off thinking "this won't be so bad"
about five seconds later I was panicking.
I still won tho :D
