Because the giveaway is over, I would like to know how you found out the magic number

 

I wrote out all the numbers everyone had guessed before my own guess. There were many duplicates, by the way.

Since the range was from 0-100, I then wrote out all the unguessed numbers.

This is where it get interesting: The hints said the two closest numbers were 5 and 2 apart, respectively.

That means that numbers that were guessed that were 1, 3, and 4 away from any unguessed number could not be the number. I assumed that BattleSlayer would have mentioned numbers that were less than 5 or two away if they had been mentioned, instead of just saying that one was 5 away or 2 away.

After that, I manged to cross out almost 3/4 of the unguessed list. After that, I looked through the earliest posts to see what numbers had been guessed. I saw that 80 and 77 were among the earliest using the timestamp of the last edit made by BattleSlayer. I made a guess about when he made the first edit, and judging from the guesses I was not wrong.

82 is 5 away from 77 (5 more and 5 less were considered), as well as 80 and 84. I chose 82 because it fit all the criteria.

Kinda neat to do, should have gone to sleep instead. But puzzles are fun. Hope you got something out of this explanation.
