Wynncrafters, we have had sporadic reports, both on the forums and on the GitHub, of classes being deleted. I've been trying to track down what has been happening, and today, I have an answer for you.

To start, there has been a recurring theme about deleted classes; they are always gone when a player logs back in. Some players have reported accidentally right-clicking the class in the class selection room, and bringing up the "Delete Confirmation" dialogue box, some don't remember doing any such thing. There has been a bit of discussion about whether or not players have been accidentally confirming the deletion or not, with everyone saying "No", I didn't hit that nasty confirm button. Well, given that the "kill it with fire" button is a green check mark, and the "don't do it" button is a red X, I've never been sure as to whether or not anyone was right about what they hit.

    It. Does. Not. Matter.

That's right, it doesn't matter for this issue. On my alt account, I created a new class, and played it until I got to Lv4. Then I went into the lobby, clicked on the compass, and right-clicked the new class in order to bring up the class deletion box. I very methodically hit the "Esc" key, then reselected the class again. I then played the class for a few minutes, then repeated the entire process. 50 times (yes, I counted them). The class never disappeared. During this process, I accidentally did this, once, to a low level class that was holding a bunch of Bob's Tears and depressing weapons. Once.

Now, it gets depressing. Hours later (a little while ago), I logged back in and went to check my inventory. Guess what happened? Both of the classes that I had used the "Esc" key on to leave the "Delete Confirmation" dialogue box were deleted. That's right. There is a bug here. Apparently, there is a chance, and it may be 100%, that if you close the "Delete Confirmation" dialogue box with the "Esc" key, that your class WILL be deleted. I have no idea how long this will take to happen, and it does not matter.

What does matter is this: If you enter this dialogue box, tell it "NO!", don't use the "ESC" key to leave the box. There is an error in the default logic such that when you use the "ESC" key, it is not the same as telling the dialogue box "NO", and you may (will?) lose your class.

It may take some time for it to happen. I came back hours later, so I have no idea of the time involved. I also don't know if it's a probability, or if it's an absolute.

Less than 1 1/2 hours, and I've just gotten it to happen, again, on a new class. I'm not going to try to find the minimum time for loss, but I will repeat myself, "ESC" =/= "No".

Whoa... great work, you finally found out the issue. :o
So ESC is not stable, you shouldn't use that in important situations. We should remember this :3
Maybe this thread should be sticky until this bug is fixed

I know everyone is insulted by the second "Are you sure?" boxes that pop up when you do something irrevocable in a lot of software, but maybe accidentally double right clicking shouldn't be all you need to do to erase your class.
Especially with the summer lag issues, and the tendency of people to spam click when annoyed with lag.

We do have a command to skip the class selection thing. Note that i only play one class unlike many players.

Yes, but you know how people don't remember everything that they did? It always left room open for doubt, because we had no firm evidence. Now, it's been tested, on my alt account. I even lost one that I didn't intend to even test. Then came back, and tried it on two more classes, with the same result. I have no doubt in my mind that this is at least part, if not all, of the "random lost class" problem.

Does trying to delete a class, esc, and then trying to delete it again but press X cause it to delete or nah?

That's a good question, Thunder! I don't know, I didn't test that. I'll try to remember to test it this afternoon because if it does fix it, it would be a great, simple fix, for now. If anyone has a blank class or an alt with a blank, give it a shot, and see what happens to the class in an hour or so.

OK. New assassin. Killed mobs to Lv2. Tried Thunder's suggestion. Went back into game world. Killed mobs to Lv3. Exited to lobby. Exited game. I'll see if that Lv3 assassin is still there this afternoon.
