Wouldn't it be better to find the gear you want to use then put the skill points you need for the gear into that? Then I would ask the question.

No. Bad idea Mr. Ivoric. Just stop, and if you are doing that in game, i am sorry for your "build"
As for temmie, if you want to focus on spells, put a lot of skill points into intelligence (duh), at least half, and that's all you really need.
The only choice is how you want to take damage
    Agility: dodging, chances, and speed
Defense: Tanking, Reducing, Constants (if weaker constants than agi chances), and slowness

the difference between agility and defense (the big one) is that you are either getting a constant amount reduced every single hit, or with agility, a percentage chance to negate ALL damage.
you might also want to invest in earth or dexterity a bit, which runs on the same logic above (str-deal set % more, and dex-chance to double it) but this part is porbably an option.

So in the end, it would be focus on intelligence, agility or defense, and the option of adding earth or dexterity.

(I use a Earth-Water-Fire build, with focus on water)

    Thanks for reading!
