So I used to build a shit ton but got bored a few years in. Ive always been interested in creating stuff and Ive always loved environments but minecraft building got boring ;-;. Although I've known about UE4 for a while I only started getting into it today. So what im saying is, if you like building check out Unreal Engine 4. You can create really fucking awesome environments that has realistic shit its dope. These are some screenshots of what I started on today: (Had to use imgur too large image res for the forums)

Unities rendering is completely overrated if you ask me xD. Its good for indie devs but later on when you have really nice graphics in a resource intensive game its much easier when it comes down to it. Take a look at Rust. Some of the optimization is on their end but 70% of it is on unity and it doesnt even look that great. Sure you can render stuff beautifully in it but if you want a lot of stuff in a video game its extremely limited if you want to be optimized whilst in the end Unreal handles it a lot better.

That is all true, but are you a major development team? The pros for Unreal only come into play in the big leagues, with whole teams of modelers. Anyways, that's not even my style. Minimalistic is the way to go.

EDIT: despite this, I think the environments are pretty cool. Good job!

Yeah didnt mean to come across as "Unity is bad for everything", I definitely think its great for smaller development teams but I disagreed with your "master race" thing. Although PC master race is true kek

I prefer Unity's rendering in terms of development because it doesn't focus on hyper-realism (which is hell for dev teams if they don't have at least 15 artists) and it seems that it's easier to make simpler environments (I don't know of any low-poly or at least "simple" graphics games made with Unreal) which usually stand out more if done right. Of course, UE is certainly better for realism but IMO this produces very generic gritty low-contrast aesthetics (like many FPSes) most of the time (although what you did is much better as there is quite a bit of contrast). I guess it comes down to what artstyle you're going with.

I never really programmed in UE (I took a look at it but I didn't really understand it (I don't know if you can even have multiple scripts on one object and such (oh no nesting brackets is never good why did I do this)) and didn't look further into it) but AFAIK C# (or most other OOP languages like Java) is way better for games and Unreal uses C++ IIRC, which is better for tools. I prefer Unity because I'm used to it but I think it's also easier to get into.

I might give Unreal Engine a try some time but I suck at 3D modelling or any sort of art for that matter.
Damn I wrote too much again. I can't keep my posts short, can I?
