If Diamond Is The Hardest Metal

How come we aren't using it for armour?

 

Gemstone hardness just refers to it's atomic bond.

In reality, diamonds are very brittle.

 

It's expensive as shit and separates easily.

To add to what @Kawaii__Turtle said, diamond is super rare. SUPER rare. If you think you can just traipse out to a diamond mine and grab a cubic meter or so of pure diamond (about what it would take for a suit of armor, I'd say), you'd be oh so mistaken.

 

Diamond is actually rather common in nature. However, it has been made commercially rare by its producers, and therefore worth more.

Basically, the price of diamonds was artificially inflated by claiming that they are ultra rare.
