In case you need some stuff to read... I try to avoid mainstream crap but usually it finds me anyway (it's mainstream for a reason). Also feel free to post your favorite books too, more reference is good.

    1. Snow Like Ashes - Newish series. Doesn't get enough credit for how good it is. The title and the cover set my expectations really high to be honest. I was not disappointed. The characters are good. The plot (twists) are good. The setting is good and unique. It's got romance but I actually wasn't that bothered by it. Way better love story than Twilight I swear. (It's a love triangle but shhhh everything is a love triangle illuminati confirmed)

It's politics, battles, a desperate struggle, and a slowly unwinding plot that blew me away not because it was overly creative, but because of how much it was thought through and how well executed it was. (It was decently creative, not mindblowingly so) Also, character development. There was tons, and it was good. Heck, I learned some new vocabulary words.

    2. Percy Jackson - MAINSTREAM CRAP. It's funny, the characters are good, the concept is creative and heck, I actually learned tons of Greek mythology crap. The romance is set at a slow enough pace that I don't cringe at it all the time. This was my number one book until I read Snow Like Ashes.

    3. Eragon - Mainsteamish? Honestly the first two books weren't that good, they were pretty much Star Wars plot in medieval times (compare plot points, I dare you. It's exactly the same.) However, the third and fourth books were amazing. Politics and battles and politics and good characters and suspense and fillers and Roran an- oops. (The Roran parts were awesome.)

    4. The City of Ember - Kind of a short read, but good nontheless. Not epic with huge battles or anything either. It's basically two kids solving a riddle to save their town. Sound boring? It isn't. It's a perfect blend of suspense and (seemingly... But it's not) fantasy and dystopian

    5. Warrior Kittehs! Meow Meow Mix! (Warrior Cats) - Soooo... Lemme sum this up. Cats. Fighting. Epic. Magical kitteh clans. Made me cry when I finished all 30 something books. There you go. I mean their's memorable characters, the plot is good, and even though the plot splits with each series, it all ties together so well. More characters die than in GoT though I swear. Like a whole clan of main characters is near massacred. Did I mention the prequels? A tension I can feel when I'm reading, and some good references and revelations to the originals just make it hard to put down.

    6. Inkheart - The first book was pretty good, a nice (confusing ish for some) plot and a diverse cast of characters. But the second book. Oooh man. So the setting is infinetely better, any confusion about the plot of the first book is cleared up, and it gets so sad, yet epic. Suddenly you have every element- loss, betrayal, sadness, hopelessness... Oooh fun. But really, it's a good read, but not as light hearted as say, Percy Jackson. The third book is actually more cheerful than the second.

That's actually all I can think of. I'll add more if any more pop into my head that I think are worthy enough. Also btw, I hate dystopian. Even though I still read them. But that's why The City of Ember is the only dystopian on this list. Because it's the only dystopian I can stand.

I read inkheart, it was pretty good.
I'm a big fan of Terry Pratchett and his discworld series. (I am currently reading his long earth trilogy).
chronicles of ancient darkness are also great books telling the story of a young boy in a tribe society in the undiscovered Americas.
the edge chronicles are great for young readers as they fit into an alternate tech genre which is easy to understand.
the earthsea books are also a great read if you don't have time as they are mostly small and present a rather chaotic universe in a simple way.
beyonders is a fully magic series which doesn't ceases to amaze me.
the red dragon by Thomas Harris (Hannibal Lecter) is a great psychological horror book and I cant wait to read the other books in the series.
the golden compass is also recommended for young readers as it introduces an alternate tech universe is a simple way
Gam of Thrones is for the more adult readers and is amazing and unpredicted from start to finish.
Isaac Asimov's books are also a delight as the describe futuristic societies (also its fun to read books from the hand of the father of science fiction)

I have so many books that I'll just list current series I'm reading/going to read once I've finished others.

    1. Tunnels Series.

This is the one series I like which doesn't really count as fantasy (I actually don't know what genre. It has adventure, a bit of romance, a bit of sci-fi and fantasy and probably other genres. Book 1 was a great introduction because it introduces the various themes of a lot of the main characters. The second book turns most of the main characters into ninjas (okay, maybe not, but close enough) and adds a few others, but does add a lot of sadness and makes you think, "WHAT?! THERE ARE FOUR MORE BOOKS, BUT THAT CAN'T BE POSSIBLE BECAUSE THERE AREN'T MANY MAJOR CHARACTERS LEFT WHAT?!". Then you are hit with realisation as new worlds are explored in book 3, but you feel that the characters aren't going to last long and someone is going to die soon. Which is why book 4 leaves you feeling, "They're doing so well now... but they sacrificed [SPOILER CENSORED].". Then book 5, which I'm just reading, is pretty much making me think, "Erm... okay? They added that? I don't even want to think about this... you probably made this a bit too wrong sounding...", then I don't know what happens in book 6.

    2. Belgariad.

This is a great fantasy book with possible the best variety of characters I've ever seen. 5 books of pure awesomeness. The only reason it doesn't beat Tunnels series is because Drake in the Tunnel Series. Once I've finished Tunnels, I'm going to read the second series, Malloreon.

    3. Septimus Heap.

A funny fantasy series with all sorts of magic, interesting plots, time travel, and so on. The problem is, there aren't any 'losses'... as far as I've read at least. Another reason why I really like Tunnels.

These are my two main series at the moment, haven't read any others in a while. Brisingr and Percy Jackson are very good, though I like these two more. I've also read a tonne of other fantasy series and one or two sci-fi.
