Mysterious Portal Build

Here is the picture with the normal minecraft resource pack And here is it with the Ovo's Rustic Redemption resource pack Tell me what you think about the build

 

I mean, no offense, but it really isn't that amazing. BUT don't go thinking I won't say where it is going wrong. This is constructive critism.
For one, the stairs. They are really bland. If you wanted to make them more fancy perhaps try to make the stairwell curved and have more detail in it. I am sure a better builder can give a more detailed explanation.
Second, The portal itself. You could have made the actual portal different colors with a design in it (like the nether portal?) and the building around it could, again, have more detail in it maybe make it a bit bigger than just one block (perhaps expand the entire place to be a building at one point?)
Thirdly, the little arch on the stairwell. That is a good idea, but flesh it out a bit more. Instead of it being so simple, make it more... grand. Also add more of those, good idea just not used properly.
Also the trees could due with some work but thats optional I'd say.

Other than that its a nice build, I do hope I'm not sounding too harsh or commanding. Those are just my honest opinions on how to improve the build.

Thanks for the constructive criticism, see I don't build much so I tried my best, I will take some of your tips when building again.

maybe give the stairs low walls on either sides, of mixed blocks, that will be sufficent to fill up the blandness. other than that really nice!
