Dern Is A Realm

Noting the fact there are supposedly only 3 provinces, this would make sense if it were a realm. Story wise, it would be amazing for it to have become a realm from a province and would have a interesting quest line (much like taproot, finding the light, and the realm of light) to explain its transformation into what had happened to it.


Maybe that creature from taproot and the "1 day left" teaser could be involved in it...

What if most, if not all, of Dern was within the shadow realm? Now THAT is a real question. Absolutely no proof, but a thought

I'm pretty confused, let me show you what I mean
list of reasons why Dern is a province
Grian Himself said so.
In the Llevigar library, it says list of province history. (one of them is dern if u didn't know :)
The realm in Dern is supposed to be the shadow realm
In the lore, the villagers said of a 3rd province Behind the corrupted mines named Dern they did not want to speak of.
Stuff that proves Dern is a realm: (really questions)
Since dern is a province, It's supposed to have a gate... why does it have a broken portal behind the mines?

Also, even though the shadow realm also has enderman doesn't mean anything, there called "Otherworldly inhabitants" (which probably occupy all those shadow/dark realms out there, Dern inhabitants are also enderman, but Are the species of dern, I theorize that dern was once a regular province, but the "otherwordly inhabitants" from dark realms took over.

(btw, when I highlighted those words in bold doesn't mean I ment to prove anything wrong like this guy, I just was highlighting key words. I'm comfused here, and It wouldn't be smart of me to prove people wrong when I'm confused)

 

I think in your struggle to uncover new parts to a story that is a far way away, you've forgotten what TRULY makes a theory a theory. You created a secretive group, which insists on hoarding your finds from the rest of the community (which essentially kills the point of a theory) then you release it and expect us to believe what 9 people said is flawless. You send out waves of theories with not much time/facts put into them and call them "foolproof." And last but not least, you demand to theorize about Dern. Something we have next to no evidence about besides "Its a province of darkness" instead of theorizing about more current topics. You need to step back from what your doing, and just see exactly WHY your theories are being met with criticism. Remember: Quality is ALWAYS better then quantity. Sorry if this came off a little rude, it's just what I think about these theories.

(I'm not going to bother with the fact that you made this whole thread just to try to prove a gm and renown player wrong, I think it speaks for itself)

Grian intended for Dern to be a province and for it to be behind the abandoned mines. Saying "the storyline's wrong" won't change his intentions. Besides, the only things wrong were mainly the the dates.

Also your whole theory is based off assumptions. Like just because a thing is linked to Dern, doesn't mean where it's summoned from is Dern... "The Realm of Shadow" can literally be The "Realm of Shadow", not some fancy word play for "Dern", which is accessed through a portal through Dern. There are literally so much holes in this theory that if it was a condom, there'd be babies everywhere.

 

This may explain why that area of the map is so grossly underdeveloped in terms of quests and cities. It screams "We're saving this for later, just you wait..."

I personally am a strong believer that Dern and the Realm(s) of Shadow are two physically separate places, but are so indistinguishably intertwined that people often interchangeably use the two names.

 

It's been comfirmed that Dern is a realm. Salted said somewhere that "There are only three provinces. Dern isn't a province." (Paraphrase, not actual quote.) It bugs me when people say it's a province.

 

Though Grian had stated it was "large enough to be considered a province."
Also could you get some proof, else everybody will just keep arguing.

It's similar to a province, very close. It's likely not a realm and just an area that's not considered a province.

1) Dern is not a true province? Could be a realm

2) WE Site D said the realms "fight for influence over our land from afar." And what is "far" away? Dern! Why is "far" in quotation marks? Because it isn't physically far away, it's on a separate plane of existence!

100% confirmed Dern is a realm.

Well not really, but the evidence is overwhelming.

Well instead of looking at old sources and theories we can look in game. Lets take a look at the Realm of Light. The Rol has it's own species and acts as a province. It has a town and a problem. If you where to create Wynn but with the Rol as the starting province I would consider it a province. Therefor Dern could be considered sorta province-y.

 

From an outsider's perspective, since I have not participated in this community long, I think this is an incredibly pointless argument. I have seen nothing that shows that the words "province" and "realm" are completely separate things. They are close to synonymous and the minor semantic differences between them can be seen as largely irrelevant.

Hell, you could probably call Wynn the "realm of Wynn" without being semantically wrong, since the province is indeed a realm (and vice-versa). The only defining difference with, say, the nether is the lack of a (known) government thereby making it technically not a province (province implying having a government).

Why not just define everything as a "place". That's basically all either term means. Realm and province are just titles that mean "place". The implications of using one over another for Dern seems little to none, at least from what I've seen.

Oh, also, don't take my word as law for anything. I might be an admin but I am not privvy to any additional details about lore, nor do I care to be. I just manage servers and like to participate in discussions :)

 

I believe the argument here is more towards whether or not Dern is part of the contiguous landmass that Wynn and Gavel share, or if it is it's own plane of existence altogether.

 

Basically we are arguing over if Dern needs a portal or a gate.

 

Okay, I like this but I would prefer if this was made off of some more solid evidence/lore
