Ok, so I want to try something new.

Spoiler: Useless Backstory Stuff

When people make theories, they usually come in waves. There was a wave about Nilrem. There was a wave about Bob. There is a wave about the Ancients.

The reason for this is that info comes out, and then we all start to have mindsplosions. Right now as a community we have our eyes turned to 2 things.

Gale's tomb and the Ancients. This is about the latter.

Now, this thread is gonna be super different than what you expect.

I was given a request to make an official thread about the Ancients. Cuz yeah.

Well guess what? This is gonna be like a giant community wide convo cuz why freaking not.

Instead of making a thread and people comment what they think, the main post is just setting this up.

The main part is us discussing in the comments. So if you have nay questions of whatever you want to ask or discuss or put out there, now's the time!

Now is when I would say feel free to comment, but I think that's the whole point here!

Evil, Dark, Dern, Life, Sexy

Well, I guess I should look at them:

Evil: Well, if the Ancients were going insane, then we have to look at their point of view. They were cast out. Desperate. Is it possible that they did not know that darkness is evil? So they found out that this dark thing was evil, and they write this down. Not the outcome I'm hoping for, but it is a possibility: they WERE pretty much insane at this point.

Dark: Now, if we look at the fact that they are insane, that means that quite a few things could be possible. Including this. Maybe one of the Ancients was so insane that they wrote this. What does insanity have to do with this? Well, what if the force 'darkness' was actually called 'dark' but everyone calls it darkness? Then an insane Ancient finds this out and writes this. Again, hopefully not the outcome, but it is another possibility.

Dern: Basically the whole evil thing. If they did run from Dern, then maybe it is possible that the darkness they were using turned out to be from Dern, they didn't realise that they were pretty much the same thing, so on again. OR Dern is the name for the REALM of Darkness, and we haven't realised this. Of course, rumours could have been passed down in Wynn and Gavel, eventually making everyone think that it is a province, not a Realm. Plus, most people have limited understanding of Realms, or we would have found out about Realms before Taproot, which I'm pretty sure is the first quest Realms are introduced in.

Life: This is the one which doesn't really make sense to me. "It's not Darkness, it's Life." If this is what it's meant to be, then maybe the Ancients are feeling so hopeless that they are trying to say that Darkness is meant to happen... as I said, I'm really not sure about this one.

Sexy: And of course, there is the possibility that the whole thing is an easter egg and someone was messing around.

 

Grian: Dern should still be considered a province.
Therefore, Dern probably isn't a realm.

 

I think Dern is the most logical. Like they are saying "the thing we are running from is not the darkness that exists in Dern, but Dern itself"

Or this could be a thing that supposed to help us link the ancients to Dern, in which case we are already way ahead

We crunched the numbers and did our homework.

For all intents and purposes, treat Dern like a realm. It's a realm, but it has the geography and complexity of a province

 

Grian says Dern should still be considered a province.
Therefore, I consider Dern a province.
I will not change this view unless critical info with 100% proof is shown to me.

Ok, so firstly it is called a "far off dark land". If it's a realm on a different dimension/plain of reality, that's pretty far off.

You use a portal to go there and get back.

All the mobs their are non-Human/Villager, similar to places like the realm of light or the nether (although we assume humans do exist there).

Do I need to go on?

Actually, he said "It should be treated like a province", he didnt say it was a province. He also said something along the lines of there being 3 provinces, Wynn Fruma, and Gavel on one of Spyro's older threads.

 

The point is that he's being cryptic, and we are interperating what he is saying. You don't need to believe us, but for the purpose of this thread, just assume it's a realm.

He said treated, not is. "You should treat a frog like a cat" does not make the frog a cat.

 

I know they don't make sense, but they are on the list. Just in case one of them is the right one, lets keep em.
