Before reading this thread, I recommend that you do the Realm of Light quest. As well as that, you might want to take a look at Lost Soles. If you have already done these and have forgotten, check the wiki. If you are too lazy to check the wiki... well, I guess the information you need is in here anyway.

Wait... Desolation? Never heard of it

Do what the thing above says.

    ...

Ok, you still don't remember anything called Desolation? Well... there are two things.

First mention of Desolation in Wynncraft

Believe it or not, the first mention of Desolation is in the beginning of your Wynncraft experience. What, you think I ate too much of @Rawb 's alga... ok fine, I did have a bit. But still, there is something early in the game. What is it you may ask? (Ok, I am sorta overdoing the suspense but still)

    This is Desolation:

    Dern's Desolation
    • Damage: 24-38
    • Fire Damage: 0-0
    • Water Damage: 0-0
    • Thunder Damage: 4-24
    • Earth Damage: 0-0
    • Attack Speed: NORMAL
    • Lv. Min : 29
    • Dexterity Min: 15
    • Mana Regen: 1
    • Mana Steal: 1
    • Poison: 15
Yes, it is a weapon. To be precise (if anyone gets this... ok? no? nvm then), a spear. What is important about it? Well, I'm doing the points we see Desolation in a chronological order just because 1. it builds the suspense even more and I like that because I'm cruel and 2. some of you may have been that lucky warrior to find this interesting weapon.... or you just looked it up on the wiki. But that isn't the point. The interesting things are the poison, the mana related stuff AND that thunder/dexterity. It is clearly thunder based. What does this have to do with anything? To be honest, I'm not sure myself yet... but everything else is very interesting... here's why.

Final mention of Desolation in Wynncraft

Now this is why I recommended doing the Realm of Light quest. For those few lazy people, here is what happens (if you have already done the quest, you don't have to read this next part):

    1. You venture into the Realm of Light, another Realm just like the Nether and other Realms you may have encountered on your journey. A creature called a Heliolux then tells you about problems in this Realm and you investigate. You find a Seed of Corruption. Yes, the Corruption. One of the other forces. A force. Remember the word force (this is where you start making star wars jokes).
    2. You destroy the Seed and then go into a cave. A Light Dog appears! Light Dog uses bite! It is supereffective! Player faints. Then you wake up in the Pokémon Centre the Heliolux village with a creepy Heliolux hovering over you. It directs you to the chief.
    3. The chief tells you more about the dark side evil forces in the Realm of Light. He wants you to destroy the other Seeds before it is too late but you need ANOTHER HELMET?! I MEAN, DIDN'T THEY DECIDE NOT TO DO THIS TO US AGAIN AFTER TOL?! Anyway, you collect stuff for him to make it from some mobs which are op for your level. But yeah...
    4. The chief directs you to the two places. The first is... the Seed of Desolation. Yes, Desolation. If you really want to skip to the next part to see the actual theory, you might want to do it now. But anyway, in the quest you then destroy that seed and go to the Seed of Darkness. Problem is, the Seed of Darkness has hatched but you kill the creature anyway.
    5. You go back and are finally directed to the place you see in Gavel Showcase... 3 I think? Anyway, you then get the biggest cliffhanger in existence, as you are just getting ready to fight an op boss called Orphion to completely save the Realm of Light. But then... it turns out that it isn't part of the quest. Instead, it is part of a dungeon which hasn't yet been released.

But back to the theory (and away from Pokémon and Star Wars jokes)! Yes, the Seed of Desolation.

Ok, nice thread, but this isn't interesting at all

Or not. Because, if you notice, the other Seeds are of Corruption and Darkness. Corruption is a dark force from the Nether. Darkness is a dark force from the Realm of Shadow. So therefore, Desolation is a third dark force.

Actually, I might stay for a while. Tell me more about the Desolation

    (Incoming memes I guess)

Ok, so the question is, what does the Desolation do? Well I have several answers. The first goes through a big line of ideas. The other is based on that and things we've seen previously.

So first, we need to look at the mental effects of all of the forces.

Light: I'm guessing this is peace and happiness.
Darkness: From Memory Paranoia, slow betrayal and doom. Oh yeah, and paranoia I guess.
Corruption: Makes people angry and greedy. Yes, greedy. Corruption created those emeralds you have. Do you want to give them all to someone for free? No? Greed.
Cosmic: I will count this as a force since in Purple and Blue, you find out that three of finest minds in Gavel went insane. It also made the fish people intelligent, almost like humans and villagers.
Decay: I wasn't actually sure about this one. Some people think it may, like Corruption, cause greed. I'm not sure though.
Desolation: First we need to look at what Desolation means. Well, it pretty much means sadness, grief, loneliness, all of that sort of thing. So this is likely what it does.

And as for the second thing... well, we're coming to that later...

Wait, does this have something to do with... Dern?!

Oh yes, it does! Desolation is likely the threat in Dern, just like Decay for Gavel and Corruption for Wynn. However... there is one other thing I've realised about Dern, with the help of other people I've been showing the theory to. Introducing another low level spear to your local cinemas eyes:

    Dern's Shadow
    • Damage: 10-15
    • Fire Damage: 0-0
    • Water Damage: 0-0
    • Thunder Damage: 0-0
    • Earth Damage: 0-0
    • Attack Speed: FAST
    • Lv. Min : 10
    • Mana Regen: 1
    • Poison: 3
So, another spear to do with Dern. Not just that, it even has similar ids. Which means that Dern is likely to be slowly dying and that there is powerful magic there. But Shadow? Well, this is where we find out just how bad the situation is inside Dern...

Dern also has connections to the Realm of Shadow/Darkness (like seriously, they called it two different things in Memory Paranoia and Eye of the Storm). Of course, many people theorised this before. But I haven't actually seen anyone basing anything on low level weapons before, possibly because they are usually seen as worthless, especially without having lore. But anyway... the situation in Dern is pretty dire.

But how do we know what these two things look like?

You'd think that the answer would be that you don't. But no, it isn't. Because you get those Abysso Galoshes. Dernic stone boots. Wait, Dernic stone? What would be special about that? Remember that we have emeralds? Well, what if either Darkness or Desolation caused 'Dernic stone'?

And this means that we see one of these at the Delnar Mansion in Lost Soles. Which one? Darkness. Why not Desolation? I originally thought that but was then reminded that they were stolen. Nobody knew about the Abysso Galoshes except the person who gave it to them (possibly Nilrem because of the whole item of power thing, or a Dernian who just wanted to create more Darkness) and themselves. I'm guessing themselves if the person who gave it to them was Nilrem but if it was a Dernian then that just reinforces the whole Darkness thing further. They are described as 'dark and mysterious creatures'.

It has been believed for a while that Dern is going to be yet another square province located south of Wynn. So that means that the House of Twain, which has some sort of curse thing, has one of these. I mean, it even has spikes. So, which one? Darkness, because I just have a feeling that a similar thing to what happened with the Caritats happened here (what is it with a family with a large mansion being destroyed in Wynncraft?).

And a final location of course is Dead Island. We know that Dernians have invaded this place. But how? With some snake-like creature (not dragon, look at the body). And the egg we see in Haven Antiquity is likely a Seed. Once again, which one? I'd say Desolation this time just because a completely different creature came out of that Seed of Darkness in the Realm of Light.

So yes, there are actual locations with Desolation right before us. Two, in fact. And I have a feeling that we are going to see more of this at some point.... whether in another 5 days left countdown or 'soon'.

Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed this theory. Just like with the Devourers and the Timestone theory, you can give suggestions about the Desolation and other things related to it.

One thing. The egg on haven of antiquity could not be a seed because the eggs can still be seen on dead island after the beast hatched and was killed. We know the seeds don't do this cuz one already hatched inside of the realm of light and the seed was not still there.

    ---

I personally think Desolation is Fruma's problem and Darkness Dern's, but that's just my opinion. It's your theory not mine (although you did say to comment what we thought)

[also, you don't mind me watching the thread do you, I feel like this could be interesting]

Villagers were greedy before the Corruption~

I just wanted to point out that the Caritats were effected by the Decay. They literally built the mansion ontop of where the worm crawled out. So they got effected by the decay; nothing else. (I assume.)

And I mean us humans. Villagers were always greedy but we were greedy when we started mining for the emeralds.

Corruption: Causes people to go crazy, making them angry and evil
Decay: just killing all nature pretty much
    Darkness: *cough* Dark *cough*
Desolation: I think of desolation to be "destruction" or a combination of decay and darkness if you would ask me

The seed of darkness had just hatched, though. The wither may not have had time to create new eggs to replace the one it came from, which the beast of Dead Island certainly had time to do.

I should be all the proof you need. I hail from Dern, and look at what it did to me.

My backstory from the "Where do you live in Gavel/Wynn?" thread:
    Warning: Wall of Text

tl;dr I come from an area of no colour, I learned dark magic, I escaped Dern with a stone that restores colour, and I am essentially the reason no one can enter Dern.

Ik, but I mean more like MENTAL effects.
Desolation pretty much means 'nothing', so I can just imagine Dern being a barren landscape now.
But the emeralds. The emeralds cause LOTS of greed for humans long before we reach Gavel.

Well, by the time we found the emeralds, a bunch of dead people came out with the emeralds, hence why we stopped mining there and moved to Troms.

There was a bit of time before the dead people. We were mining down into this gigantic hill. By the time humans got to the portal and unleashed the monsters inside, at least a year would have passed. A thousand years ago, we would have a lot worse mining equipment than the stuff WynnExcavation have now.

From my leading of the lore, we weren't greedy for emeralds, we needed them to survive for shelter, food, ectetera (Wynn aint communism, yo). We went mining, found the portal, went through, and low and behold, emeralds! So we start mining them, and learning that the Nether causes an ill effect on people, thus shortening Nether times. Eventually, due to the slowly growing economy, we need more emeralds to avoid a market crash, and have to delve deeper. Eventually though, we hit a point in the Nether, and we wake up dead people. Now these dead people attack, blah blah blah, 900 years down the line, Villagers show up, looking for a way to stop the Decay. They see us, see we're poor and broke after 900 Season of The Walking Dead, and are basically gonna leave for elsewhere because we have no emeralds. The villagers were greedy in Gavel, humans were just doing humany things. Even the elves say that the villagers became greedy once the light faded.

Which brings a thought to me, even tho I'd hate to say it, is it possible for Decay and Corruption to be the same, just have different effects on the race?

I think it was a theory a while back, though it could have been fact, but basically there was something about the worm. The theory or whatever the thread was said that the worm had been to the Roots of Corruption, been affected by it, but then it started the Decay and begun to take over Wynn.

Yay fanon on a theory thread, just what we need! /s

Anyways if there are actually 3-4 separate forces (Corruption, Desolation, Darkness-Decay) against Light then how are we to realistically win? Seems like we're super outmatched imo but I mean, we got Playable Characters, gotta win for the sake of plot right? (Unless the ultimate plot twist is even with Bob's testing, Nilrem's help, and Qira's army we lose (and yeah that kinda makes it seem like we have a better shot))
Side note, if Corruption is what happens when light and dark overlap, why is it's effects primarily evil (counter point, I suppose emeralds are 'good')
