New Quest: The Lost

Well, it's actually not really a "secret" just something that's hard to notice.

You know what, that's close enough for me. I've already found all the other Gavel secrets 'n knickknacks, time to find this thing-that's-hard-to-notice.

Still gonna ask for hints tho, got any for me?

 

Ah yes, The Lost, a quest where I'm able to kill a mama bear and leave her cubs to die, thanks, content team!

 

What is the Ice Dungeon?

 

There's something unique about this quest, and it's not really about your first time playing it. You definitely won't notice it your first time through. There's nothing you have to actively search for, you just do the quest. Talk to Dejol, give each letter to the NPCs, and go back to Dejol.

 

Is it the fact that it doesnt matter in what order you give the letters?

 

Yeah, already done the quest. Time to do it again.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner!

Essentially, The Lost is the first of its kind, you can do it in any order you like, for the most part. I still haven't forgotten the day the GM chat discussed how to make The Lost work, it took us like an hour to come to a conclusion after Grian first told us about the idea for the quest and asked us "Hey can we make it work?" The letters are actually required to make this quest work the way it does. Otherwise you could just talk to the same NPC 5 times and then head back to Dejol.

@RIP|captainganon Someone's already guessed it right, now you don't have to go on a wild goose chase to find it out.

I must say though, it's a pretty cool innovation and seems like it could be useful for quest-making. Not sure how, but it seems like it.

 

Now that that was said, I did realize that it was in any order. I just didn't even give any thought to that when I did the quest.

 

As I've said many times before, we're still figuring out how we can use the quest system in new ways. For example, we have multiple-ending quests now, and then Aldorei piggybacks on that by making your actions have consequences. We have unrequired NPCs, which are littered all over Gavel. And that's all literally without any changes to the quest system. The only new addition the system has ever had, as far as I can tell, is the Mob NPCs, which has also opened dozens of new windows, as you have probably seen.

 

Oh yes, I've definitely noticed the Mob NPCs and other new sorts of NPCs. All cool 'n stuff. I've only noticed the unrequired NPCs in King's Recruit though, where are the other ones? Maybe I just forgot. Tbh I think it'd be pretty cool if all villagers could say something if you right clicked on them, but could they still move? Maybe I could put this into a suggestion...

 

Aldorei's Secret Part I is just literred with them, The Belly of the Beast has some all over Thanos, Memory Paranoia has a bunch, General's Orders has a couple, Acquiring Credentials and Flight in Distress have several, and I think Cowfusion has at least one. The list goes on and on, but needless to say, they're all over the place.

 

What, really? I thought most of the seemingly useless NPCs in Thanos were used in From The Bottom

 

No, there's two in the main hall and one somewhat close to the entrance. They all tell a little bit of lore about Ozoth.

 

Oh, right. Flight In Distress, weren't they there to give you hints?

Also, do you think making every villager being able to say something upon right clicking on them while still letting them move is possible or not?

 

I think I have an idea on the quest system. There would be three trials, but you have to choose one of the four challenges in each trial and each one of them becomes more difficult than the last as each trial goes on.

 

Definitely not with what we currently have. Maybe in the future.

In the meantime, don't be surprised if you see a few new interesting things like what I listed earlier in future quests. We're always pushing the limits of what's possible with quests, all to make sure that each one is a unique experience.
