Reacquiring Items Upon Final Death

I died after losing all my soul shards or whatever they're called, unfortunately, and when I went back none of my items were there! I read that items despawn after 20 seconds or immediately, but I just wanted to make sure that this information is true. If it is, what is a good way to start again from scratch from a moderately high level? Can someone please give me a few good items to get me a head-start back on the road of progress? All in all, thanks a lot, and have a nice day! :)

 

I would start by buying some armour and weapons at a merchant. I'm surprised you don't keep backup items in your bank or am i just weird...

 

I actually know where the bank is but i wanted to get other quests out of the way before going to Detlas and ended up dying before reaching the bank there... :(

 

I would advise not to go out of a town when you have 2 or less soulpoints. This way you won't have a chance of losing your stuff

 

Sometimes, you just don't look at your hotbar. It happened to me once.

I can confirm it takes way longer. I've died and managed to pick up my items again.

 

How long ago did that happen? A few months ago I ran a test that concluded in that items don't drop at all, they get killed. I was told that was done to fix a duplication glitch.

 

After the Garbel update ;)

 

The issue regards chunks being spawned or despawned. If you respawn in a town outside of render distance from the chunk you died in, then the items won't be there when you come back (to my experience), but if the chunk remains loaded while you are dead there is a chance you can get your items again.
On a side note I appreciate this not being an "OMG give me my itemsss" thread. Thanks for understanding the game mechanics and just Rollin with it, where many others have complained.
