With Gavel, the skill build system is completely revamped! It's more confusing now, too. As a level 90 warrior (I have no idea how I got here) who goes on TS with a lot of people who are even higher leveled, I'd say I have some experience with builds. Now, in 3 easy steps, you can be on your way to the best build for you!

Step 1: Think of Your Playstyle
The best way to start with making a build is to start with your playstyle. Do you like spamming spells? Do you want to hit fast? Do you want to tank? Do you want to pray to RNGsus every night? Heck, do you just want the craziest build on the block? Look at the effects of skill points, and choose to base your build around those. In some builds, you have some ridiculous gear (like Cancer) that you want to wear by endgame. I don't advise this, but in a few cases like the one I said it could be worth it. In this rare case, skip to step 2 or 3. For my example, I want to be the best traditional tank. I choose warrior, and invest as many points into fire as I can. However, I now have 100 points to burn. Normally I'd invest into air, but it counteracts fire's attack speed and would just make my build a mess for me. I enjoy hitting slowly but hard, so I invest into earth. My build is now fire/earth, but mostly fire.

    Step 2: Choose Precise Points
This goes right in hand with step 1. The title pretty much says it - choose things like 100/100 or 40/40/40/40/40 or 100/50/50. Due to the nature of skill points and getting none at level 1, you might have to choose which won't get as much as another. In the example, my fire/earth build is very straight forward - 100/98.

Step 3: Pick Out Your Endgame
Alright, before I do this step, I have to say something. NEVER BASE A BUILD AROUND YOUR CURRENT GEAR. I'm fine with certain gear like Cancer, but if it's literally just to wear your current gear you should immediately reset. Now that disclaimer's over, here's perhaps the hardest step. First, go to the item guide on the main website. Click the filter to set it to whatever gear you're looking for (for example, a spear) and do ctrl-f. Type in the box "Lv. : 9" and press the arrows. Look at the gear, their average ids, and requirements. Pick out your gear from this. For example, for my tank build, I choose the spear Undying as my endgame spear.

There you go. I recommend reading Tantibus's Combat Guide for some more tips. Enjoy.
