Double XP For VIPs: Revisiting a Lost Feature



Recently, Salted has suggested the idea of reimplementing a long-lost feature given to those who donated to the game and purchased a rank: Double XP. Yes, as he and many others say, it does break the End User License Agreement (otherwise known as EULA), stating that hard currency may not be used to provide an ingame advantage and should only affect the aesthetic and cosmetic portion of a game. However, WynnCraft is lacking a lot of monetary profit they desperately need to run the servers and produce all of their great content. Furthermore, Gavel will most likely create a large commotion in the Minecraft community, causing many new players to join, and old players to return. Now is the best time to think of ways to generate more revenue, so he has proposed these options.

Option 1: Bring back Double XP for VIPs

Plain and simple. This is the easiest way to go about things, though it does pose a major problem. It violates the EULA directly. Those on one side of the argument state that the EULA isn't being enforced, and so it doesn't matter. Though this may be true, we don't want to risk the chance of the EULA becoming enforced without warning, and having the server and community get wiped out. This is the 2nd most popular vote.

Option 2: Bring it Back, But Decrease XP Bonus

This is basically Option 1, but with less XP. Out of all the options, this is the least popular. It is reasonable why no one wants this option, as not only does it still break the EULA all the same, but the paying members will still get a lower XP bonus than double, though nonetheless it is still an XP bonus.

Option 3: The Golden Sheep

The idea of this option is to have a pet follow the player who donated around, spreading XP to the player as well as people around the player. Though the radius is not specified, most believe it to be around 20-40 blocks. This is the most popular option, and the least EULA-breaking one, though some parts of it still violate the EULA. People are also arguing that people will see the sheep as a "beacon", and thus intruding the donated player while grinding, becoming more of a nuisance than an advantage.

Option 4: Don't Bring Double XP Back

Here goes to the members of our community who want to play it safe. Though I do want to support the server's ambitions of raising revenue, I'll have to fall in this category. We don't want to take any chances of having this server shut down, and maybe there are better solutions…

Option 5: Double XP Totems

These double XP totems will activate for 15 minutes, granting players within 50 blocks of it double XP. The community seems a bit torn about this option, though the majority is ruling in favor of this. There will be 3-4 totems supplied every day for VIPs, and 6-8 supplied every day for VIP+s.

Gavel Beta Testing!


Gavel's Beta Testing begins this weekend! Around fifteen to twenty people were personally selected by Grian to help beta-test Gavel and work out the kinks and bugs with the development team. Along with this, on the Twitter account of Wynncraft, @ Wynncraft, a raffle has just begun, with 5 more people who will be drawn on Twitter to beta-test Gavel. To enter, simply retweet and reply to the message with your highest-level class. May good luck be spread to all those applying!



Of course, by applying and joining the beta testing sessions you will be agreeing to spoil everything in Gavel for yourself. You may have to deal with game-breaking bugs, repeating quests over and over and over, and obey the commands of the development team. Those who want a full, unobstructed experience should not apply, but if you feel like you want to contribute and help out the WynnCraft team, go right ahead and join the raffle! Good luck!

The highly possible option: Option 3 was retrofitted into a totem of double xp, "Everyday at midnight, VIPs would receive 3-4 Double XP Totems, and VIP+ would receive 6-8 (not decided yet). Each one of those allow you to set an area of 50 blocks around you as double XP for 15 minutes or so. Your max amount of totem will be 3-4 for VIPs and 6-8 for VIPs+, so you won't be able to stack them until you have 200 of them. It should fix most of you guys issues, which were..."

Nah, this is much better than Wynn News. Plus most of the news is relatively fresh seeing how long it would take to make one of these.

 

I'm not trying to hold a war between WynnWide Tribune and Wynn News, all I wanted was just for some friendly competition between news agencies :I

 

Yours is still a spin-off of Shooting's Wynn News from back when Jeremy hosted his build server :p (Although shooting's wasn't much news :I)

 

Just because someone posted a news post a year ago, doesn't mean I am ripping them off. Our News team has been the only one so far to stick with it as long as we have. (24 Issues and counting).

 

This seem so much better and professional than WynnNews , although the information is outdated it still provide what's needed

I actually really like what you made here! Something I do want to point out is that the images aren't transparent. Other than that, well done! ;)

I also see some people complaining about the fact that it's a copy of Wynn News, and that the news is outdated, but that's like saying you can't start your own oil company because Shell already exists, and about the 'outdated news': this is a forum of a minecraft server, so not that many things happen.

I don't have a Twitter, but it's fine. :)

 

I personally feel this is fairly different in format from the Wynn News organization. It is more of a "Information Dump" style of news, meaning it is delivering a large quantity of material all at once. This pleases me.

In regards to the "WYEEN NEWSES VS WYEEN WIDGE TWIBUNE" war, they may be "news" but they are unique. They both provide unique and interesting takes on the news. I almost view these two outlets like politically biased TV stations (CNN vs. Fox News). They each deliver similar content in unique and enjoyable ways, while maintaining a high standard of preformance inside the post.

A person may feel vindicated for having similar content, but in the end, I believe the differences between the two news outlets is far greater than many realize.

I will go as far as to say however, both sides of this argument handled the situation poorly. Yes, some 'rabble rousing' did occur, but if you want to be taken seriously, handle this well. This goes out to each organization.
