Imagine that you got sent back to time. You can bring all technologies that we have today, and also a friend (from forums).
Where would you like to be?
When do you want want this to be?
    What would you do?

Personally i would want to travel back to the year of Jesus's teens into Jerusalem. I would bring kevlar equipment, one assult rifle, one pisol, one big bunker, all the science and language books (library), electronic devices (for making computers, microchips etc), veichles and most of the tools.
I would deploy the bunker with the inpenetrable door in the central of Jerusalem. Learning people the technology and language. Killing the people who try to kill me.
This would lead to a highly evolved/destroyed world today, uncertain about if humans still rule.
    (we may all be ded)

    I would no, because no.

Because who knows what could change today, and I'd really like to not change anything.

Ikr, the butterfly effect is some deep stuff.

And that's not even taking into consideration the fact that we don't even actually fully know how time itself works yet.

You could run into time loops, grandfather paradoxes, multiple timelines, and/or be trapped in another time period forever.

You could also end up accidentally overwriting the timeline that you came from, with an even worse off timeline, effectively killing off everyone you knew, and dooming the future.

    Time travel is scary, man.

    Easy solution!

There are an infinite amount of universe that don't have to apply with logic, so in infinite universes (I'll call them IU from now) don't have the grandfather paradox and IU do...

So really it was all meant to happen, and that universe already planned itself.. Hang on.. I just made it worse, didn't I?

Ah yes, that's my favorite solution to time travel paradoxes.

But that's assuming that the IU theory is correct, which would be taking a pretty big gamble if it turns out to be wrong.

But then again it's the simplest and easiest solution to most TT paradoxes so it doesn't make much sense for it to be wrong.....

But if you did travel back in time and created an infinite amount of alternate realities then how would you even get back to your original timeline? You would be stranded, as traveling to the future would only send you to the future of the universe you're in, not the universe you came from.

What you would need is some kind of universal tether, capable of ripping you and your time travel device in between different realities so you could navigate your way home.

But that could possibly rip apart reality as we know it, as time travel (or in this case, time dilation.) in real life relies on extremely bending the fabric of spacetime, so that plus the strain that's already there could shatter reality. (Assuming that reality even has a breaking point, that is.)

There's also the possibility that you could get stranded in a universe you don't want to be in.

And also, with this technology aren't you technically 'destroying' matter? (Which is something that should be impossible btw)

I mean, yeah you're not really destroying anything, you're just moving from one universe to another.

But the mass from that universe is no longer in that universe, and even if you go back to that universe, there will still be an alternate universe where you never came back.

And with this point in mind, you could theoretically take the mass of one universe, go back in time with it to create an alternate universe, and then you suddenly have a universe with the mass of 2 universes angrily crammed together, and a universe with the mass of no universes because you just stole a universe holy crap.

Time travel is complicated... I'm giving myself a headache over this.

But that might be because it's like 5 am

This is sorta how time travel works.

Let's take the grandfather paradox as an example - and to make it simpler, we'll use our grandmother.

You live in Timeline A - there are no alternate universes, yet.
However, you construct a time machine - let's say you choose to construct a standard time machine. You decided to go back in time for only a minute, then come back here and never use it again.
You then happen to land on your grandmother, which kills her. You should have caused the universe to explode due to your paradox, right?

Well, no. Instead of causing the universe to explode, you have just accidentally created the first ever alternate timeline - Timeline B. In this timeline, you never existed.
So, say you go forward in time again. You aren't there - because you're in the original timeline, where you existed. You're now stuck in a timeline which you can't fix.

    So, basically, in the original timeline;
    AAAAAAAAAA
    And say your grandmother was then killed in the middle of it. It would become;
    AAAAABBBBB
The reason the A's stay from before your grandmother was killed is because it's still the same timeline in the past - just not in the future. And now you're stuck in Timeline B, unless you make a Timeline A-2, but you guys probably don't want me to go too complicated.

Now, the Butterfly Effect - everyone is always scared of it, saying "Oh I'll kill a butterfly and everyone will have butts on their heads in the future, or the apocolypse will happen!". It actually isn't that... complicated, it's more simple.

Say, instead of landing on your grandmother, you landed on an ant. Oh #&$%, Butterfly Effect! Then you go forward in time and see everything is literally exactly the same. Why?
Do you really think that one single ant would've have such a great impact on humanity? I'm not saying it's impossible - maybe that ant distracted an evil scientist from starting the apocolypse. It is possible that accidentally killing that ant might've caused an enormous impact on humanity.
But, really? More than likely (seriously, very, very, very certain chance), that ant probably wouldn't have meant much.

And, finally, it depends on what kind of time travel you use. Your machine has to stick to one version of time travel. Sometimes it's paradoxes, such as with Doctor Who's TARDIS, which doesn't use the Timeline A, Timeline B rule. (Ignore Moffat.) Other times, it doesn't involve paradoxes, but re-making things, such as with Back To The Future's DeLorean, which does have the Timeline A, Timeline B rule. The thing that both of these have in common, besides being a time machine, is that they both have a flux capacitor. And also that they open the gateway to so many new things - if you go back in time, you don't have to step on an ant. You don't have to accidentally maybe (unlikely) cause a paradox. You can just observe things, without being seen. Observe the destruction of 9/11, or observe the greatness of the moon landing! The choice is yours - just don't flup it up too much, otherwise - depending on your time machine - you may be stuck in a universe that's different and maybe even worse.

I could've went into some more detail into this, as this is literally my favourite subject to talk about ever, but this is already getting too long. But... yeah, that's what I think of time travel.
And I think it's pretty flupping cool.

I'd go back to the roman empire and prevent it from collapsing, causing the medieval times to have never happened and thus making humanity more advanced on this day.

Or i'd knock out the meteor that killed the dinosaurs and prevent humanity from exising, both sound appealing.

Go back in time to about the Roman Empire time. I'm bringing with me a flamethrower, sixty gallons of fuel, oil, and diesel, a panzer, several first aid kits, several emergency repair kits, several tones of pizza, cake, cheese, ten gallons of water, 100 tones of ammo, an assault rifle, and an Mg-42.

Then I'm going to torch several towns and rampage through Rome, blowing up the colosieum, and shooting down the Roman Legion. Then I'll flatten Rome and the Roman Empire, and proceed to open fire on anything that moves. After that, I'll go back to the future with a smug smile knowing I just caused the downfall of the Romans.
