I'm more interested in the reward in end city tbh.

 

Fairly certain the cape/wings ARE the reward

 

I really like them, apart from one thing: The low ass durability.
They got like 430 durability, and you lose durability whilst gliding.
The durability either needs to be buffed (1000-1500 should do), or the durability should be removed completely.
Such a rare item should not last so short.

 

The durability definitely needs a buff or removal (I hadn't realised the durability drains 1 Point/Sec as I was testing the actual mechanics with an unbreakable one), it's balanced a little with the fact that you can repair it with leather, but as the repairs go on, so does the cost; which eventually becomes "too expensive!". An item that you need to scour the end after a boss battle should be a utility, not something that will eventually break after 7 Minutes (Approx.).

It'd make sense if Elytra were craftable, because they're technically renewable; but they're not. They can only be found on an end ship, and getting to the actual ship (heck, even finding a city big enough for one (Even finding a city at all!)) is a hard process within itself, so having to then cater to it's durability needs is even worse. I know something as powerful as gliding should have some kind of restriction (apart from that hang glider you can craft in that mod with 12 Leather and 4 Sticks, which never runs out of durability) but I think having to fight a DRAGON and then explore a barren end wasteland, fight Shulkers and somehow get on a flying ship should be enough work for the gliding ability.

Standard Minecraft Progression:
Collect Wood - Make Wooden Tools - Mine Stone - Make Stone Tools - Build a house to store items and hide from all the now super powerful mobs - Find and Mine Iron - Smelt Iron - Make Iron Tools and Armour - Search around in the deepest parts of the world for Diamonds - (Somehow) collect enough diamonds for tools and armour - Mine Obsidian - Make a Nether portal - Find a nether fortress (Can be hard with bad nether spawn) - Fight blazes and collect at least 6 Blaze Rods - Find and Kill Endermen (rare) without getting your limbs torn off - Collect at least 12 Enderpearls - Make 12 Eyes of Ender - Find the End Portal (somehow) - Fight the Enderdragon (Hard) and somehow live - Use an Ender Pearl to enter the end gateway - Search the end for an End City that's generated an End Ship (Hard) - Fight your way through the End City while getting lifted off the ground by Shulkers - (Somehow) get to the End Ship - Fight CaptainShulklz for his Winged Booty - Aqquire Elytra.

Look at all the steps you need to go through to get Gliding for 7 Minutes. I mean, this isn't counting gameplay or even time, and it's still a load of steps.

If they keep the 433 Durability a thing, here's what to do:
Get Elytra, Open a LAN World with cheats, go into creative, delete your Elytra, use " /give @p Elytra 1 0 {Unbreakable:1} ", go back into survival, leave and rejoin your world, enjoy (proper) Elytra.

 

How you will feel when it comes to PvP


After defeating the Ender Dragon in the End and getting a wing cape (I'm doing this situation because Super Mario 64)

Now very tall towers have another purpose, to jump off of and glide.

 

but holy shit the boats

 

That moment when you break your neck on the ground trying to slip through that tiny gap in the mountain, or trying to fly into a tiny cave entrance, or trying to divebomb into a lava pit. Basically having fun with it.
I like to divebomb from Y:500, spin around and imagine the sound a falling plane makes, and explode on some TNT I set up so it looks more dramatic.

 

How to train:

Step 1. Play Mario 64.
Step 2. Unlock Winged Cap.

You're done.

 

I'd be ok with it if the repair cost didn't increase, then they'd be just fine.
The shields also have/had that, and those are really cheap to get loads of. The rare ass wings however...

 

1.9 makes me feel like it's not Minecraft anymore...

I don't understand why would they add wings...
If you want wings, play Terraria

 

If you want different weapon speeds, play Terraria.
If you want different arrow types, play Terraria.
If you want armor to be ineffective against high damage, play Terraria.
If you want tree chopping axes to be effective in combat, play Terraria.
If you want effects that "linger" (Nimbus Rod, Clinger Staff e.t.c.), play Terraria.
If you want swords which can't block, play Terraria.
If you want things that act as shields (Frozen Shell, Beetle Endurance, Solar Shields), play Terraria.

So is Mojang just using ideas from Terraria now?

I actually do notice that a lot of features from terraria are appearing in minecraft, if mojang is trying to combine the 2 it won't be as fun to play as it used to

Minecraft has always needed a way of flight, and the "wings" (they are more like hangliders, or the wing cap from sm64) are a great way to fulfill this need.
This is very simulair the the hanglider you see in many modpacks, only a bit diffrent.
