Today, I found out some news about the 1.9 Update. Some news that I'm very hyped about and I want 1.9 even more.

First off, there's been a lot of hate about Minecraft 1.9 "The Combat Update". It's added a system that stops players from spamclicking that a lot of players hate. I feel as if this new item is going to really balance the scales.

In Super Mario 64, there is an item called a "Wing Cap" which is a normal Mario cap with two little wings on top. When Mario puts on this cap and triple jumps, he'll begin to somewhat fly. He can stay in the air and swoop down then up to gain height and speed.

Mojang has teased something a lot like a Wing Cap: Wings.

Wings supposedly "Cannot be crafted, only found" and will replace (if you have one) your cape, replacing the wing's texture with a cape-themed one. You can swoop down and fly far with these wings, much like the Wing Cap in Super Mario 64 (If you've played / seen gameplay of it). The best thing I can compare this to outside of Mario is the Hang Glider from...a Minecraft mod (I think Extra Utilities?) except instead of staying at one height and gliding, you can somewhat fly.

This is going to not only unlock tons more fun in 1.9 but will also unlock so many minigame opportunities (Wing Races anyone?)

Here's the video I got this news from:

    EDIT:
They're here! They're called Elytra, and can be found on End Ships. You can wear them in your armour slot, and they have a durability of 433 (It can take 434 Hits until it breaks :( ) though they can be enchanted with unbreaking using an anvil; They can also be repaired using leather in an anvil too!
Fun Fact: Elytra (Ee-Lee-Trah) are the tough forewings of insects used to cover their wings when not in flight.

Elytra will kick into action when you begin falling, and will begin to glide you when you've fallen about 5 blocks. Dive down then swoop up to gain height. These cannot be used to really Fly, but more "Fall with style" or glide.

They're a little hard to get used to at first, but with practice, you'll be an Elytra Master in no time!

When nearly broken (1 or 0 Durability), the Elytra will change item texture to a more beaten-up version (foreshadow for new item textures?)

All I can think of is "Now forcefield/aimbot hackers can fly around at super speeds, doing very efficient hit-and-run tactics without looking like they're hacking at all." and "Trying to hit a very fast flying target is going to be fun with low FPS/high ping."

Well, as of posting we have no idea where to find these. These might be only found on the End Ships (As there's a note saying that something will be there) meaning that players will need to fight the Enderdragon (well, get to the end and travel 1000 blocks away if you're a pacifist) and traverse the end, find a large enough "End City" and get on an unlooted ship. This is just an assumption, but I doubt they'd have these lying around near a Pig, so Hackers would need to go a long way for these without getting caught.

On the server side of things, IF a server decides to go 1.9, I doubt they'll be too happy to just hand out wings in a SG / PvP Battle type area. I think allowing the player to fly without creative is something that would only be allowed for a short period of time (Much like in Super Mario 64, the wing cap doesn't last forever) and would need to be collected from either a high point or some kind of Luck / Super Hard challenge.

I must admit though, having a player be able to fly around like a jet and hit everything they go through using AimBot / KillAura hacks, and not get hit by either their sheer speed or ForceField hacks would not be fun.

Imagine if you could do a quest in WynnCraft at a high level to get Wings...how awesome would that be? I mean, we have horses, why not flight?

Wings would be cool, but i bet it would require a special inventory slot or something.
Perhaps there also will be backpacks, so you'd have to choose between more inventory space or limited flight.

https://mobile.twitter.com/jeb_/status/651424762502225920 It takes up an armor slot. So either more defense or mobility.

These things are so amazingly fun to play with. For maximum experience, use Mountain Madness or Caves of Chaos. It's so amazing trying to get through these tiny openings and hairpin turns.
