If you already completed Beyond The Grave quest, you must have noticed that everytime you die, you simply get into Death's Realm. To get back to life, you must kill what have killed you before. So if you got killed by a zombie, you need to kill it so you can get back to life, and when you defeat it... POOF! You forget your previous experiences since you entered Death's Realm. But, when you get killed by Krolton, Death gives you a second chance. That you can remember what happened on Death's Realm.

Now here comes the problem:
If you get drowned or burned or you have been killed by fall damage. You can't simply "kill" the ocean. You get respawned anyways. But the ocean is still there, isn't it? So how did you magically returned?

Here is another mindblowing fact: If you do /kill, you are basically suiciding. But doesn't it mean you have to kill yourself to get again to life? What? So you are going into an infinite loop because when you kill yourself, you are going to the Death Realm once again. But you still respawn anyways.

And the last but not least fact:
Let's suppose you are doing Tower of Ascension. You get killed by Death. Ok, seems fine till this point. But you need to kill Death if you ever want to get back to life again, right? Well... If Death gets possibly killed, how are you going to get back to life if you just killed him? Wouldn't his Realm collapse? Also there is a theory that Death gets only defeated at ToA, because he IS Death. He can't be possibly killed, right? Well, if you were killed by him... There is no possible way you can get back to life again. Because he can't be killed... You still respawn.

Thanks to @Belgarath for bringing with the idea. So.. Kids, do not suicide! Or you will encounter an infinite loop. Perhaps?

 

Theory One: You don't actually kill death, he teleports away with 1 hp left, leaving the Token as a drop.

Theory Two: Death is a cosmic entity, and he can separate and reform at will, so you kill a portion of him, which he regenerates.

Theory Three: The Copy you fight is a shadow of the monster, not the actual thing. If you drown, you fight a Shadow!Ocean, so the real thing is still there. Since Death gave you memory of this time around, the fact that you remembered it made the 'shadow' become the real monster, thus Koltron was truly killed.

Theory Four: Hidden in a secret basement in Death's mansion is a big button labeled 'they done borked it', that Death presses whenever you create a paradox. This button fixes it.

 

Death can't be killed. Its sort of like matter/energy/Reddit hate/whatever you want. Death cannot be destroyed nor created, but transferred.

Death is like Bob, in a sense. Bob is a powerful warrior, and awaits people to challenge him to see if they are better than Wynn's hero in combat. Death, is a powerful fighter, and seeks those who which to best him. I'm certain Ankou pays him as well, Death gotta pay housing bills somehow.

 

All mobs can respawn. That fixes the paradoxes.

 

Trust me, as a fellow theorist, I can tell you 100% theory 4 is correct

If you suicide/drown by fire (what) I bet you Death is like "They dun goofed" and revived them anyway because they were so dumb and he wants to see how they will do in life again.

EDIT: To clarify, there's no button in-game, don't go on a wild goose chase looking for it.

 

I might be wrong, but perhaps the reason Death gets you to kill the thing that defeated you is as a kind of honorary thing; like "Does this person deserve to live again?" hence the limited soul points (and as you get stronger, you get more "respect" from Death.) Particularly in this quest; Death is very "Human" and I would imagine he'd take pity on a creature who couldn't escape the water quick enough or slipped on a loose magma rock. After all, Death is what we make of him (Warning link gets philosophical and is from a brilliant book series unrelated to Wynn) <- Effectively says things like Death and the Tooth Fairy develop a personality over time.
